dc.description.abstract | It is generally agreed that discipline and academic performance go hand in hand. In Oljoro-orok Division in Nyandarua District, Kenya for quite some time, the academic performance of the pupils at primary 7 and 8 levels has been declining. The purpose of the study was to investigate the relationship between pupils' discipline and academic performance in selected primary schools in Oljoro-orok Division of Nyandarua District in Kenya. The research was carried out in 5 selected primary schools in Oljoro-orok Division in Nyarndarua District, Kenya. The method used •was random san1pling of pupils and purposive sampling for the teachers. Research instruments used included interview schedules, questionnaires and observation schedule. The research findings were that school rules and regulations exist in schools but are not strictly followed by all the pupils. Majority of teachers from selected schools were concerned with instilling and maintaining discipline. The general performance in these schools, Gatimu primary, Inoro primary and Weru primary was higher than in those schools, Oljoro-orok primary and Kinna primary where teachers were less concerned in instilling and maintaining discipline. If promotions to the next class are based on academic performance, dedication to studies was observed. Punishments are not properly and effectively used in schools. Teacher’s supervision and concern is important for discipline. Guidance and counseling in schools requires proper implementation and its effective use. | en_US |
