dc.description.abstractThe study investigated factors that affect performance in English language at Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (K.C.P.E). The study specific objectives among which were; (i) To examine the effect of school administration and performance of English. (ii) To assess the effect of students' attitude towards English on performance. (iii) To investigate teaching methods on students' performance on English. (iv) To establish teachers' qualifications and its effect on performance of English. The study was carried out in Amu division, Lamu District, Kenya. The study involved one hundred and twenty seven (127) respondents. The study found out that; (i) English language lacked adequate and qualified personnel (ii) Teachers were a problem as they concentrated on business outside professional duty as moonlighting. (iii) School administrators were not supportive to equipping of school libraries. (iv) Many a time teachers used mother tongue as a medium of instruction. (v) Methodologies used by teachers were not student/ learner friendly. (vi) Primary school curricula was overloaded with little time allotted for lessons. The study recommended that; 1. The government (i) Train more English teachers.en_US
