Abstract
The study investigated job safety and employee productivity
among selected public and private organizations of Makerere
University, Dairy Corporation and the Uganda National Association
of Teachers Union, in Kampala, Uganda. Specifically, the levels of Job
Safety, and levels of Employee Productivity, were examined. Additionally,
the relationship between Job Safety and Employee productivity was
examined. The study adopted a descriptive Cross sectional and
correlation survey design. Using simple random sampling, a sample
of 219 respondents was extracted from a target population of 484
respondents. Results revealed a high level of job safety among
Public and Private Organizations in Kampala in Uganda (mean =
2.97). It was also established that overall, employee productivity
in public and private organizations in Kampala was high
(mean=2.72). Study findings further revealed a positive
relationship between job safety and employee productivity among
Public and Private Organizations in Kampala in Uganda (r =
0.677, sig. 0.000 < 0.05).The hypothesis that there is “no
relationship between job safety and employee productivity among
Public and Private Organizations in Kampala, Uganda” was thus
rejected. It was recommended that, the government should put in
place laws aiming at protecting workers against health issues
associated with their work.
