dc.description.abstractThis study determines the Relationship between, socio-economic status and the Academic performance of pupils in prinaryschools of Nsambya Central Parish;, Makindye Division Kampala. It centers around the following objectives; the relationship, between the family socio-economic status and the child academic performance; parent’s educational level have an influence on the chlld~c academic petformance; the influence of school environment and whether the naturalfactors affectthe academicperformance. This study utilized both qualitative and quantitative methods utilizing 1590 pupils and54 teachers from PrimarySchools ofNsambya Central Parish A researcher made questionnaire, interview observation and check lists were used as research instruments. Frequency andpercentages, calculated mean and factor correlation coefficient were used The study based on a problem which is not only in the research environment but in the whole country and the continent at large, for example almost every year town schools outperform village schools. The findings indicate that the parents’ sodo-economic status which indude the parents incomes, the parents level of education, family assets and the parent’s social position in the society proved to be the major cause of the differences in the pupil academic performance. The following are recommended to the government:, School administrators and parents Teachers as of educational facilities should have a balanced view of children from various S~ES background as to blend their teaching so that all will benefit equally. Parents whether HS~S. middle LES or Low LES should strive to provide minimum extra incentive for the children in the school. The school administration should provide a conducive atmosphere for the children to learn even for those who don’t opportunity to have access to extra learning facilities at home.In conclusion, therefore, the research efforts revealed that parents’ S~ES can greatly Influence academic performance of their children, It was revealed that there could be other factors contributing to academic performance which were outside the premises of this research. However,. I was able to determine a relations,o between parentheses academic performance primarily school children in the study area and found out that there are strong relations,os in between the two variables.en_US
