dc.description.abstractThe study was carried out in Kenyenya Division, Kenyenya Province of Kenya. The aim was to ascertain why the performance in Biology subject in Kenyenya division secondary schools was very poor. This was done by collecting data from different respondents using different methodologies. Data was collected from 8 head teachers, 8 biology teachers and 24 students from the selected schools in Kenyenya division. Data was analyzed both qualitatively and qualitatively and presented according to the research objectives. Finding revealed that too many in class, promotion of incompetent students, practicing biology at school, and teachers lacking interest in teaching biology subject were the major causes for the poor performance in biology subject in Kenyanya division secondary schools. The recommendation suggested included; The teachers should be encouraged to upgrade so that they improve on their academic standards and gain more experience. Head teachers should enforce practical teaching of biology in schools. Parents should be advised to provide their children with lunch and school material at school. Weak students academically should be advised to repeat classes.en_US
