Abstract
This study sought to establish the effect of resource management on project execution, a case study of Karan hospital project in Mogadishu, Somalia. The study objectives were to determine the effects of resource utilization practices on project execution of Karan hospital project, Mogadishu, analyze the effects of resource planning on project execution of Karan hospital project, Mogadishu and identify the effects of resource allocation management practices on project execution of Karan hospital project in Mogadishu, Somalia. The study employed a cross-sectional study to evaluate the contribution of resource management to project execution, a case study of Karan hospital project in Mogadishu, Somalia. In this study, a descriptive design, in which both qualitative and quantitative data were used to collect data about the subject under study was used. The study used questionnaire and interview guide as the main tools for collecting data. The choice of data collection tools was dictated by the nature of data to be collected, the time available as well as the objective of the study. Findings from the study revealed that project managers were involved in planning stage, budgeted funds were enough to complete the project, budget for the project was properly determined (combining the estimated costs of individual activities or work packages to establish an authorized cost baseline), human resource department of project execution of Karan hospital project, Mogadishu, was majorly involved in the company’s planning process and project execution of Karan hospital project Mogadishu there was all resources were allocated (qualified personnel and infrastructure). The study concluded that resource management in construction project of hospital in Karan district, Mogadishu need to be further improved and monitored frequently for its effectiveness. From the survey conducted on the case study, the study believed that the members in the project team had the awareness about resource management in construction project. The study recommends that government projects like Karan hospital project should be selected carefully, to make use of all local resources and materials and fulfill the needs of the local society. It was also recommended that greater efforts should be made to execute high quality projects, by selecting the best-organized designs and the best-qualified work rather than lower costs alone. Designers, planners, managers, contractors and government officials must avoid nepotism, bribery and personal interests when dealing with contracts and bids. The sole concern should be the quality of the work.
