dc.description.abstractThe study was entitled 'Con-uption and Decentralization in Uganda: The Case Study of Kamuli District'. The study focused on three sub-counties of Budiope, Bumanya and Namwewa. The study was based on the following objectives: to define corruption; to assess the incidence of corruption in Kamuli district; to identify the factors which facilitate corruption in Kamuli district; to find out what mechanisms are there for controlling corruption in the district; The following research questions guided the study; what is the incidence of corruption in Kamuli District; what factors facilitate corruption in Kamuli District; are there any formal mechanisms for curbing corruption in the district? If so, what are they; what has been the effect of these mechanisms on the problem of corruption in the district; what can be done to make these mechanisms more effective a sample of sixty-eight respondents was involved in the study drawn from the three sub counties, local government officials and the media? Alongside these respondents, focus group discussions were also conducted. The findings from the study reveal that corruption has greatly affected the local people in Kamuli District. A lot of resources go missing from the district, thereby reducing on the quantity and quality of services delivered to the district. From the study, the recommendations were made: there is need for the proper definition of corruption. Some people under look petty corruption on the grounds that this involves few resources; there is need to emphasize that in-respective of the magnitude of corruption, it is still considered and should be considered an evil; there is need to strengthen supervision from the center, to control the activities of local government officials.en_US
