Abstract
The law on the admissibility of hearsay evidence in Uganda and the different types of evidences in Uganda, a key feature of this text is that it explores the dynamics of evidence law not only from a strictly statutory legal view point, but also with an eye to the rationale behind them and the functions they were intended to fulfill and where possible how they have actually performed. The dissertation tries to explain the operation and effect of the provisions of the admissibility of evidence in Uganda which may be obscure and where necessary draws attention to defects and inconsistencies which are capable of an1endment. This dissertation has of necessity been kept free from technical language for ease of understanding. Whereas the views expressed may evoke criticisms, dispassionate consideration of them should contribute to a better understanding of the dissertation provisions concerned. This dissertation is therefore structured and organized to enable the reader to read it at two possible levels: (a) one may read the main text and ignore the footnotes and citations, (b) if one is interested in perusing citations, one may look up the references given in the footnotes. I am deeply grateful to those colleagues and friends who have so kindly read and constructively commented on some chapters, finding documents, cases and other materials and in checking references. Finally, I am beholden to my supervisor Mr. Wand Era Ismail who once again have proved highly professional, exceedingly understanding and patient.
