- ItemManagement practices and teacher performance in universal basic education schools in Rubavu District, Rwanda(Kampala International University, school of education, 2011-08) Charles, KabandaThe study was set out to establish the relationship between management practices and teacher performance in Universal Basic Schools in Rubavu District, Rwanda. Specifically, it sought (i) to determine the level of management practices in terms of teacher management and teacher supervision; (ii) to examine the level of teacher performance; (iii) to determine the relationship between level of management practices and level of teacher performance. The study used a descriptive co-relational design. Data were collected from 585 respondents using self administered questionnaires as data collection instrument. Data were analyzed using summary statistics and Pearson’s Linear Correlation coefficient at bi-variate level.The findings of the study revealed that there is a significant relationship between the level of management practices and the level of teacher performance in Universal Basic Education Schools in Rubavu District. Recommendations were then formulated including that government should ensure that teachers’ s salary enables them satisfy basic needs and that headteachers invest more in helping teachers improve their preparations, instructions and evaluations.
