- ItemFamily Planning Methods and Societal Perceptions:(Kampala International University, College of Humanities and Social Sciences, 2015-09) Onyango, DenisThis study aimed at investigating the reasons of low participation of people ofTororo municipality, Sub-county in use and response to various family planning methods and generate knowledge on how to divert people's negative attitudes about family planning. Three specific objectives guided the study which included; to investigate the roles played by medical personnel in promoting the use of family planning, to establish the relationship between perception and beneficiaries participation in the use of contraceptives; to find out the influence of bad cultural practices on use of contraceptives and to determine the influence of some religious practices towards the use of contraceptives. This study used both qualitative and quantitative methods of data collection. It was both a descriptive and analytical study, closely looking at a cross section of issues. A sample size of 60 respondents was used to collect data. Results indicated that society perception towards family planning methods is still very low as it was witnessed in the findings that a relationship existed between the perception and participation in family planning. Education levels and religious and cultural practices have a great influence on the adoption of family planning methods. It was therefore recommended that the government, NGOs, ministry of health, women themselves and local leaders should to increase massive sensitization and awareness on the use of family planning focusing mainly on the benefits of its use.
