Abstract
This study aimed at investigating the reasons of low participation of people ofTororo municipality,
Sub-county in use and response to various family planning methods and generate knowledge on
how to divert people's negative attitudes about family planning. Three specific objectives guided
the study which included; to investigate the roles played by medical personnel in promoting the
use of family planning, to establish the relationship between perception and beneficiaries
participation in the use of contraceptives; to find out the influence of bad cultural practices on use
of contraceptives and to determine the influence of some religious practices towards the use of
contraceptives. This study used both qualitative and quantitative methods of data collection. It was
both a descriptive and analytical study, closely looking at a cross section of issues. A sample size
of 60 respondents was used to collect data.
Results indicated that society perception towards family planning methods is still very low as it
was witnessed in the findings that a relationship existed between the perception and participation
in family planning. Education levels and religious and cultural practices have a great influence on
the adoption of family planning methods. It was therefore recommended that the government,
NGOs, ministry of health, women themselves and local leaders should to increase massive
sensitization and awareness on the use of family planning focusing mainly on the benefits of its
use.
