- ItemEffects of indiscipline on mathematics performance in day secondary Schools: (A Case Study of Turbo Division in Uasin-Gishu District)(Kampala International University, College of Education, Open and Distance Learning, 2008-09) Kipkemboi, Ngetich; PaulA descriptive research on "effects of indiscipline on mathematics performance in day secondary schools", was conducted at Turbo Division to examine the effects of indiscipline of mathematics performance in day secondary schools. The following objectives guided the study What is the relationship between mathematics performance of indiscipline and disciplined students. How do indiscipline students perform in mathematics test? Do indiscipline students complete their mathematics assignments? How is this participation of indiscipline students in mathematics? The study population were the teachers and students of selected secondary schools in Turbo Division of Uasin-gishu District. The instruments used were questionnaires for teachers and students. These questionnaires were collected analyzed and the following were the findings: i) There exist a strong link between indiscipline and poor mathematics performance. From the finding the following recommendations was made. Indiscipline students should be advised and counseled in schools.

The data was collected through sampling technique which included random, purposive and systematic random sampling was used to get the six (6) schools that the study was conducted in; the sample was used to select the ten (10) pupils from each school. The teachers and parents were selected through systematic sampling, ninety (90) respondents were included in the data collection. The objectives of the study were: ► to analyze how absenteeism affects performances of pupils in the sampled primary schools in Aromo Sub-County, Lira District.► To find out the extent to which lack of concentration affects academic performance of pupils in the sampled primary schools in Aroma Sub-County, Lira District. ► To assess the extent to which escaping from school affects the performance of pupils in the Sampled primary schools in Aromo Sub-County, Lira District. ► To examine the effects of theft on academic performances of pupils in the sampled primary Schools in Aroma sub-county, Lira District. The findings indicated that: Hunger forces pupils to steal from friends and neighbors. Pupils who are hungry don't concentrate in class. Absenteeism has a big negative effect on academic performances, lack of meals reduces one's effort to concentrate on academic performance, and children escape from school due to hunger
- ItemMotivating factors underlying the performance of local government Employees in North Eastern Uganda Case Study of Kotido District Local Government Kotido District(Kampala International University, College of Economics and Management, 2009-10) Lomanio, Darlington; PaulThe study looked at motivating factors underlying performance of local government employees taking into consideration Kotido District as a case study. The study also investigated the persistent cause of declining employee performance and high rate of turnover considering motivation as the key variable and performance as the dependant variable. The study was guided by the following key objectives: • Identifying motivating factors for Local Government employees in Kotido District. • Examining the relevance and adequacy of the motivation systems offered by Kotido local Government. Empirical data was collected from Kotido District employees through questionnaire guides for primary data and secondary data being the library, internet based on the theory of Hertzberg. Structured questionnaires were used to collect data from the respondents. The questionnaires comprised of both closed-ended and open-ended questionnaires. The researcher used simple random sampling, stratification and purposive methods on 100 respondents selected from various departments. The key findings of the study suggest that: employee performance is significantly influenced by a number of motivating factors such as good working conditions, prompt payment of salaries, free accommodation and security, allowances, medical care while the absence of the above conditions affected the employee performance in Kotido district local government. The study therefore recommends that Managers should find ways of availing employees with reward schemes to enable them perform work to the expectation of the organization.
- ItemWork stress and employees performance in government institutions-case study: National Bureau of Statistics Juba southern Sudan(Kampala International University, College of Humanities and Social Sciences, 2011-10) Boi, Mabior; PaulEconomic development of any society depends on how planning and provided adequate rewards have been organized. Employees therefore being the force behind ideal performance in the ministry should be highly rewarded to be motivated to undertake the relevant tasks diligently and with optimum results being realized. The purpose of the study was to establish the effects of rewards on the performance of employees in the National Bureau of Statistics, South Sudan Republic. The study was prompted by the declining performance in performance in the workplace and this was objectively observed in the last few years. The study examined the types of rewards given to employees by the ministry and a further study on employee perception on the effect of rewards on their motivational levels and the effects of rewards on performance of employees in the ministry. In gathering information the research study employed both primary and secondary sources. The primary source was mainly the questionnaires and interview guides while the secondary sources were the library work and internet. The study used descriptive survey as its research design. Four research areas in this project were identified and these provided the overall study area as a number of sampling techniques were applied to obtain relevant data. Frequency tables, charts and graphs, means as well as Spearman's correlation coefficient were used to analyze collected data. From the findings of the study, it was revealed that employees at the ministry valued financial rewards more than non financial rewards and different employees perceive rewards differently hence a variation in their motivational levels ..
