To assess the existing parent and student attitudes on education in Othaya Division 2. To investigate on the challenges facing secondary school education in Othaya Division 3. To assess the levels of poverty at the household level in Othaya Division The research was principally descriptive involving both qualitative and quantitative techniques of data analysis. Stratified random sampling techniques were also used to select respondents for the study and total of 130 respondents participated in the study. The main instruments for data collection were questionnaires, focused group discussions and face-to- face interviews were conducted. Data collected using questionnaires and a structured interview guide was analyzed using frequency counts in form of percentages and was later tabulated to determine the level of significance. The findings of the research showed the low attitude of parents and students is attributed to the high levels of poverty in Othaya Division that has driven many students out of schools and forced many parents to withdraw their students especially in the so-called "good schools". The researcher recommends among others things that government should increase financing of these educational institutions, review the educational curriculum and provide education for all through the introduction of Universal Secondary Education as this will help those students especially from the disadvantaged families to enroll and acquire basic Education.
