Abstract
The study carried out a critical analysis and investigation on senior citizens
grand scheme in Kayunga district. This study was carried out in the whole
district of Kayunga in the eastern part of Buganda.
Previous studies indicated that a number of factors from the failure of social
security to elderly people which was specifically in the traditional African
society setting of extended family system to recognize the mental abilities and
capabilities of the elderly people do affect them to a large extent since they can
not afford to withstand the poverty environment that can not best describe and
suite their living standards.
The researcher findings revealed that challenges of the senior citizens scheme
originated from may sources, from the selection process, the amount of money
given out, timing of the money, and the saving culture of the old people which
is a natural event of people in Kayunga district in particular and Uganda at
large of poor saving culture.
A number of measures have been drawn up basing on the researchers
observation and conclusions of the research findings. This includes among
others that thyre is need across the globe to put more emphasis on supporting
the elderly people to boost the life style.
Government should increase funds foe the elderly people to cater for at least
three quarters % s of the needs of the elderly people such that serious poverty
is not seen in those beneficiaries.
