Abstract
The study investigated the teacher motivation and how they affect the
performance of students in Kesses Division Wareng district of Kenya.
The objectives of the study were to investigate whether teacher transfer affects
academic performance of students; determine whether teacher promotion affects
the academic performance of students; determine whether increase of teacher's
salary affects the academic performance of students.
The methods used for data collection were questionnaires to the respondents
who were teachers who were the major respondents in this study and a focus
group discussion with the students who also provide some vital information.
The findings showed that teacher transfer affects academic performance of
students; teacher promotion affects the academic performance of students
positively; and increase of teacher's salary affects the academic performance of
students in positive way.
Recommendations were made on the findings which included among others that
government should make sure that the teachers are given something to motivate
them so that the feel appreciated and also improve on their performance, and
that Schools should make sure they reward teachers who are hardworking to
encourage them do more than they are doing.
