    Project Management Practices and Project Success of Afgoi Road Construction in Mogadishu Somalia

    This study sought to establish the effect of Project management Practices on project success, a case study of Afgoi road construction project in Mogadishu, Somalia. The study objectives were to examine how planning affects the success of Afgoi road construction project in Mogadishu Somalia, to analyze the effects of human resource on the success of Afgoi road construction project in Mogadishu Somalia and to find out the influence of funding on the success of Afgoi road construction project in Mogadishu Somalia. The study was guided by the competency theory. The study employed a cross-sectional design to evaluate the contributions of resource management to project success, a study of Afgoi road construction project in Mogadishu, Somalia. In this study, a descriptive design, in which both qualitative and quantitative research approaches were used to collect data about the subject under study. The study target a sample size of 108, the study used questionnaire and interview guide as the main tools for collecting data. Findings from the study revealed that project managers were involved in planning stage, budgeted funds were enough to complete the project, budget for the project was properly determined (combining the estimated costs of individual activities or work packages to establish an authorized cost baseline), human resource department of project success of Afgoi road construction project, Mogadishu, was majorly involved in the project’s planning process and project success of Afgoi road construction project Mogadishu there was all resources were allocated (qualified personnel and infrastructure). This study concluded that the management of resources of Afgoi's construction project in the Mogadishu district of Mogadishu needs to be further improved and its results constantly monitored. Through the study of the situation, the research believes that the team members have knowledge of improving management resources. This study suggests that government projects such as the Afgoi construction should be carefully selected to use all local resources and materials to meet the needs of the local people. The study recommended that more efforts should be made not only to reduce costs but to do good work and choose the best organizational structure and the best business. Architects, planners, managers, contractors and government officials must not discriminate, bribe or engage in personal gain when administering contracts and competition. The only concern should be efficiency.

    Project Monitoring and Management of Agro Pastoral Industries: A Study of Biyoole Project in Hargeisa, Somalia

    Monitoring systems allow for project activities to be measured and analyzed. Unfortunately, there is often a gap in the design of monitoring systems; generation of information during the process of Monitoring and use of this information in future designs. The purpose of this study is to establish the impact of Monitoring of Project Management of Biyoole project in Hargeisa Somalia. The study was guided by the following research objectives: To determine the effect of structure of monitoring on the management of Biyoole project in Hargeisa Somalia, to assess the effect of human resource capacity on the management of Biyoole project in Hargeisa Somalia and to examine the effect of data quality on the management of Biyoole project in Hargeisa Somalia. The study used the Logic model and Control Theory. The research design used was a cross-sectional. The study targeted two hundred & sixty (260) respondents. However, from the population of 260 respondents, a sample size of 158 respondents was selected using a formula for determining Sample size by Sloven’s formula. The data collection instrument used was a questionnaire and interview guide with 158 of them sent by the researcher to 158 respondents which received a response rate of 127 respondents. The findings were that, monitoring structure, data quality, and human resource capacity influenced the management of monitoring system in Biyoole project in Hargeisa Somalia as monitoring officers, staffs who had monitoring experience and training, utilized monitoring information adequately and carried out regular data collection from various sources. More so the management of monitoring and evaluation systems was satisfactory given the fact that information was accessible to organizational staff; feedback after measurement of project activities was received and the information needs of staff were met. Therefore, the study recommends that Constitutional Review Support should ensure routine data audit, conduct preliminary assessment of impacts by conducting case studies and combine the use of logical framework with outcome mapping. The study recommends that credibility is also essential to any monitoring system. Valid and reliable data help ensure the credibility of the system. To be credible, monitoring systems need to be able to report all data— both good and bad. If bad news, or information demonstrating failure to meet desired outcomes and targets, is deliberately not reported, the system will not be credible. There is need for data protection.

    Beneficiary Communities’ Participation and Project Sustainability: A Study of Mogadishu Afgoye Road Construction Project in Somalia

    The purpose of the study was to establish the relationship between beneficiary communities’ participation and sustainability of Mogadishu-Afgoye road construction project. The objectives of the study were to establish the relationship between beneficiary communities’ participation planning and project sustainability, to find out the relationship between beneficiary communities’ participation implementation and project sustainability and to establish the relationship between beneficiary communities’ participation operation and maintenance and project sustainability of Mogadishu-Afgoye road construction project. The study collected data from a cross section of population within the division because it enabled collection of data in one setting. Also data were collected at one time from a sample selected from a larger population. It employed quantitative approach. The main data collection instruments that was used for the study was self-administered questionnaire. The questionnaire was designed to answer all the research questions raised. Data from the field was cleaned, compiled, sorted, edited and coded to have the required quality, accuracy and completeness. Inferential statistics of Pearson’s Correlation Coefficient was used to establish the strength of significance between the study variables. The regression analysis was used to examine the relationship between beneficiary communities’ participation and sustainability. Findings showed that the overall means on the beneficiary communities’ participation planning and project sustainability of Mogadishu-Afgoye road construction project, indicating a high level of satisfaction or agreement among the respondents across all categories. Overall means on beneficiary communities’ participation’ implementation and project sustainability indicating a high level of satisfaction or agreement among the respondents across all categories. The overall means on the beneficiary communities’ participation operation and maintenance was rated 2.54, indicating a high level of satisfaction or agreement among the respondents across all categories and project sustainability of Mogadishu-Afgoye road construction project, indicating a high level of satisfaction. The Mean Square as calculated as 2.216. The F-statistic is 25.538, and the associated p-value is very small (less than .000), indicating that the regression model was statistically significant. The stakeholders involved in the planning phase, including the community members and relevant authorities, have successfully addressed the needs and priorities of the beneficiaries, ensuring that the project aligns with their requirements. The high level of satisfaction or agreement among the beneficiaries regarding the implementation and project sustainability indicates that the project was executed efficiently and effectively. The researcher recommends that the community participation should be improved on the beneficiary communities’ participation in the planning process by establishing mechanisms for their meaningful participation.

    Leadership Styles and Project Success among Non-Governmental Organizations; A Case Study of World Vision, Somalia

    The study examined the contribution of leadership styles and project success among non-governmental organizations of World Vision, Somalia. The objectives of the study were to determine the contribution of autocratic style of leadership on project success to investigate the impact of democratic style of leadership on project success and to examine the influence of laissez faire style of leadership on project success in. The study adopted a cross sectional designs with an application of both quantitative and qualitative approaches. From the study Krejcie and Morgan Table of (1970) was used to determine an adjusted sample size of 130 from the target population under study. Stratified sampling techniques and purposive sampling were used to select the respondents and data was analyzed using IBM, SPSS, 24 and presented using descriptive and inferential statistical results. The study found out that World Vision Somalia effectively organizes work activities, organization accepts accountability for actions taken and this, understands the value of team work and the leader listens to the views of the team before final decisions are made, in addition the leader encourages employee discussions. The study concluded that there was a positive relationship between the autocratic style of leadership and project success. Respondents contend and application of autocratic style of leadership principles such as centralized decision making, emphasis on performance, can lead to project success. Therefore, this study established that the democratic style of leadership has a positive effect on project success and very strong positive relationship between the democratic style of leadership and project success of non-governmental organization of World Vision Somalia. The study recommended that leaders should continue to employ democratic principles of leadership within a setting in order to realize successful project out comes. The researcher therefore recommends that project leaders should use a mix of styles depending on the situation at hand. The researcher recommended that projects should have the best leadership elements in order to perform better.

    Financial Resource Planning and Performance of Construction Projects. A Study of Buruuj Construction Company, Moagdishu, Somalia

    This study investigates the dynamics of financial resource planning and its impact on the performance of construction projects at Buruj Construction Company in Mogadishu, Somalia. The objectives were to examine the effects of financial planning processes and monitoring on project performance and to explore the relationship between financial resource allocation and project outcomes. Utilizing a cross-sectional study design, data were collected from a sample of 109 respondents selected from a population of 150 employees and beneficiaries using Slovin’s formula. Questionnaires and interview guides were employed for data collection, and the SPSS software was used for analysis. Findings revealed significant positive relationships between financial planning processes (r = 0.297, p < 0.01), financial monitoring (r = 0.412, p < 0.01), and financial resource allocation (r = 0.413, p < 0.01) with project performance. The study concludes that integrating financial planning and monitoring processes is crucial for enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of construction projects. The theoretical framework is grounded in resource-based theory, emphasizing that strategic financial management can lead to improved organizational performance. The study recommends that the Somali government support construction organizations in understanding the benefits of financial resource planning. By enhancing knowledge of financial management, stakeholders can significantly improve project outcomes. Overall, effective financial resource management is vital for the successful execution of construction projects, highlighting the need for ongoing training and accurate performance forecasting to optimize resource utilization.
