- ItemActivities of Non- Governmental Organizations and Project Implementation:(Kampala International University, 2023-08) Abdi, Mohamed HassanThis study focused on the activities of Non- Governmental Organizations and Project Implementation using a study of World Vision, Mogadishu, Somalia. The objectives of the study were to determine the effect of management commitment and support on the implementation of NGO-funded projects in World Vision, Somalia, to examine the effect of project team competence on the implementation of NGO- funded projects in World Vision, Somalia, to establish the extent to which community participation influences implementation of NGO-funded projects in World Vision, Somalia and to explore how government involvement contributes to the implementation of projects done by NGOs in World Vision, Somalia. The study was guided by the Contingency theory by Ainuddin, R. A. (2007). The study employed a cross-sectional study to examine the activities of Non- Governmental Organisations and Project Implementation. A sample of 105 was taken as per krecie’s and Morgan’s table following a target population of 143 people. The study used questionnaire and interview guide as the main tools for collecting data. The choice of data collection tools was dictated by the nature of data to be collected; the time available as well as the objective of the study. Findings from the study revealed that, project manager competence should be taken into account when assigning a project manager to a project, project manager were competence in the planning of the project activities and how resources will be utilized. Findings also revealed that groups and departments in organizations, coordination becomes a very important means of integrating the various activities, coordination facilitates social interactions where multiple actors work towards achieving a common goal, community participation influence systems, change relationships among partners, and serve as catalysts for changing policies, programs, and practices. The study concluded that, there is relationship between non-governmental organization and project implementation in World Vision organization Mogadishu, Somalia. A positive and significant relationship between non-governmental organization and project implementation in World Vision organization Mogadishu, Somalia and that Non-Governmental Projects require sufficient Manager Competences and coordination if their performance is to be felt. The study recommends that NGO project Managers should gain these competencies through training so that they are able to transform the livelihood of the people that benefit from their organizations, project managers and officers should effectively involve the community in areas such as goal identification, project design and others so that projects of NGOs are effectively implemented and Project managers in charge of Non-Governmental projects ought to ensure effective coordination of various project activities. This result to easy access of information from other team members and team members also become fully aware of the tasks they are expected to accomplish.

The study was guided by three objectives 1) To examine the process used in planning for activities in selected local and international non-governmental organizations of Bosaso, Puntland, Somalia 2) to evaluate the success of community development projects in selected local and international non-governmental organizations of Bosaso, Puntland, Somalia and 3) to establish a relationship between activity planning and success of community development projects among local and international non-governmental organizations of Bosaso, Puntland, Somalia. The research assumed a descriptive correlational study design which involved both qualitative and quantitative approaches. Using this method, the researcher used a structured questionnaire ( close ended) and an interview guide (for qualitative responses). A research population of 650 was identified and a sample size of 248 respondents was computed using the Slovene's formula. In selecting the respondents the researcher used stratified random sampling, systematic random sampling together with purposive sampling techniques. From the findings it was found that the activity planning process at the projects was low. On the other hand, project success was also found to be low. The researcher went ahead to examine the relationships between the study variables and it was found out that there was a significant relationship between activity planning and project success at within the projects as it was computed at a Pearson correlation coefficient of 0.791. Regression analysis computed the R Squared was to be at 0.626. The researcher recommended use of computerized activity planning tools, training of staff, contingency plans, adherence to project policies and benchmarking with other projects.

College of Humanities and Social Sciences, 2012-09) Twahirwa, PhilbertThis work << APPRAISAL OF AGRICULTURAL PROJECT IN RWANDA DEVELOPMENT BANK (BRD) is a result of research conducted in Rwanda in the above-mentioned bank. the paper analyzes some of the critical factors that determine project success in BRD, determine the parts financed in agricultural funding process and expose the challenges faced by different parties involved in funding agricultural projects during the period 2002-2009 and suggest possible solutions. The study was performed under descriptive research design. Key data were gathered using document study and questionnaires administered to different staff of the bank. Managers targeted were involved in financing, credit administration, and loans recovery and contract enforcement. Experience and skills based on the feasibility studies, Character, Adequate technical capacities in agriculture field, Cash flow, collaterals are major factors that banks consider to the first place ,and are the major factors that explain by the fact that of increasing investigations and have highest information about borrowers and agricultural projects concerned. Regarding financed parts in agricultural projects, the study demonstrates different clarify that the big portion of funds in this sector is orient in Implementation and tools, followed by production inputs and funding processing. However, the difficulty of managing and coping with risks caused by liquidity shortage on those projects was pointed out as a big challenge, especially those of a systemic nature. The study suggested that the bank could introduce agricultural finance as part of a long-term strategy in recognition of the potential longer-term benefits. Concerning bank ability of projects in optic of reducing credit risk. Government could use various policy measures and instruments to reduce the level of systemic risk and strengthen the capacity of agricultural investors and BRD to manage and cope with its impact.

The effect of global warming that leads into climate change are of concern both for environment and human life. Evidence observed in climate change includes the instrumental temperature record, rising of the sea levels, and deceased snow cover in the Northern Hemisphere. To reduce the risk of large changes in future climate, many countries including Tanzania have implemented policies for monitoring environmental protection. However, people continue to complain that the environment is polluted. In this study the researcher was interested to find out the extent to which the use of energy contribute to the global warming, to assess ways on which community have been sensitized in the fight against environmental global warming and to examine how industrial activities influence the global warming. The study carried out in three wards of Arusha Municipal namely Themi, Olorien and Terrat. The total number of 260 respondents used who were selected randomly and purposively. The study interviewed key respondents while questionnaire were used to the entire community as well as the researcher engaged in documentary review. Data were coded, analyzed through SPSS version 12 and presented qualitatively and quantitatively. The findings reveal that in the greater extent people use energy like charcoal and firewood due to financial difficulties and its accessible which cause global warming. Also, environmental education is provided but not deeply and in a regular basis while community is much interested to be provided through the use of open discussion where by it is accessible to different people. Industrial activities contribute to the problem as it was discovered that emissions from industries lead to global warming.Therefore, there is a greater need to provide more education to the community, industrial activities which lead to global warming should be highly prohibited and policies should be revised regularly.

- ItemAssessment of patients’ perception of health service delivery in Mubende Regional Referral Hospital (outpatient department)(Kampala International University,College of Humanities and Social Science, 2010-10) Ssendikadiwa, Vito BoscoThis is a study canied out in Mubende Regional Referral Hospital with the aim of assessing patients’ perception of health service delivery in Outpatient department (OPD).The hospital faces challenges among which indude limited space, inadequate funding and Inadequate staffing. The hospltai receives ciltidsm from politicians that the services offered are inadequate, yet the health workers feel that they provide the best services to patients. It is upon this background that the researcher proposed to undertake this study to assess and find out from patients who are the pilmary recipients of the health services, their views, remarks and beliefs in relation to services offered to them. This was a cross sectional study in form of a survey. 384 respondents of age 18 years and above were selected randomly to participate. Data was collected using questionnaires, analyzed and presented using frequency table and graphs. The findings indicate that perception of patients receMng services In OPD is generally good in view of the following: Clients receive good hospitality at the entrance to hospital, the general deanliness of the hospital Is good, health workers available to receive dients at OPD and handle them professionally, patients receive adequate information and education regarding their iiiness and the use of prescribed medicines. However dients wait longer hours between 2-4 hours to receive attention. The Hospital Administration is recommended to re-organise the outpatient department the tilage system and aiiocate more staff so that the waiting time Is reduced.
- ItemAn assessment of the monitoring and evaluation system of the rural sector project, Rwanda (a case study of Ruhengeri District)(Kampala International University, College of Humanities and Social Sciences, 2007-08) Ntagugura, Bella; .R.The study was carried out on the assessment of the monitoring and evaluation system of RSSP Ruhengeri District, District. The research problem was that there was slackness, faults and deficiencies in its implementation. The research objectives that guided the study included identifying the roles of monitoring and evaluation, establishing the accuracy of information gathered and assessing the relevancy of the Monitoring and evaluation system of RSSP. The methods used were simple random sampling to avoid bias and purposive sampling of key stakeholders to get reliable data. The instruments used were focus group discussion guides, questionnaires and perusal of secondary data. The monitoring and evaluation system of RSSP has roles which are significant in ensuring efficiency and effectiveness of project activities; the analysis and dissemination of data gathered by RSSP’s monitoring and evaluation system is inadequate leading to inaccuracy of information given; the RSSP monitoring and evaluation system is quite relevant given the high motivation among stake holders and the increased productivity level. The monitoring and evaluation system of RSSP is the epicentre for entrepreneurship and development by the beneficiaries. The staff should be motivated continuously to perform their roles which were found to be significant for project success; the accuracy of information given had gaps to be filled and the relevancy of monitoring and evaluation system of RSSP was enhanced by participatory process of decision making that gave rise to increased investment and savings by the beneficiaries. The monitoring and evaluation technical staff should strengthen their roles which were found to be significant to the project success; accessibility to accurate information by key stakeholders of the project should be improved and to promote relevancy and sustainability; bottom-up planning, teamwork and regular focused feedback should be enhanced.
- ItemAn assessment of the tourism industry on poverty alleviation in Zanzibar a case study of urban west region Zanzibar(Kampala International University, Colleges of Humanities and Social sciences, 2010-08) Said, Said Moh’dThe study assessed the tourism on poverty alleviation, its case study was taken in urban west region of Zanzibar with three specific objectives, analyzes the contribution of tourism towards employment, to evaluate the involvement of tourism in foreign exchange earning in Zanzibar, and to find the linkage between tourism and other sectors of economy in Zanzibar. A case study method was used as research design. Deductive approach was opted and to sample the population of the study and select respondents simple random and purposive sampling techniques were applied respectively. A structured questionnaire was used to collect data from government. Official and Main Stakeholders concerned with tourism activities while a structured interview was used in collecting data from small stakeholders and Informal traders who dealing with tourism in Zanzibar. To test the questions a panel of four experts was used to check the clarity and effectiveness and the collected data were analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively. The results of the study show that, tourism industry has greater contribution to the poverty alleviation in Zanzibar, and concluded that, Zanzibar to develop need to improve and protect the tourism industry because is the only sector which support a wide scope of development of other sectors, the people life standard and the Nation in general.
- ItemBeneficiary Communities’ Participation and Project Sustainability: A Study of Mogadishu Afgoye Road Construction Project in Somalia(2024) Abdirahman Mohamed AbshirThe purpose of the study was to establish the relationship between beneficiary communities’ participation and sustainability of Mogadishu-Afgoye road construction project. The objectives of the study were to establish the relationship between beneficiary communities’ participation planning and project sustainability, to find out the relationship between beneficiary communities’ participation implementation and project sustainability and to establish the relationship between beneficiary communities’ participation operation and maintenance and project sustainability of Mogadishu-Afgoye road construction project. The study collected data from a cross section of population within the division because it enabled collection of data in one setting. Also data were collected at one time from a sample selected from a larger population. It employed quantitative approach. The main data collection instruments that was used for the study was self-administered questionnaire. The questionnaire was designed to answer all the research questions raised. Data from the field was cleaned, compiled, sorted, edited and coded to have the required quality, accuracy and completeness. Inferential statistics of Pearson’s Correlation Coefficient was used to establish the strength of significance between the study variables. The regression analysis was used to examine the relationship between beneficiary communities’ participation and sustainability. Findings showed that the overall means on the beneficiary communities’ participation planning and project sustainability of Mogadishu-Afgoye road construction project, indicating a high level of satisfaction or agreement among the respondents across all categories. Overall means on beneficiary communities’ participation’ implementation and project sustainability indicating a high level of satisfaction or agreement among the respondents across all categories. The overall means on the beneficiary communities’ participation operation and maintenance was rated 2.54, indicating a high level of satisfaction or agreement among the respondents across all categories and project sustainability of Mogadishu-Afgoye road construction project, indicating a high level of satisfaction. The Mean Square as calculated as 2.216. The F-statistic is 25.538, and the associated p-value is very small (less than .000), indicating that the regression model was statistically significant. The stakeholders involved in the planning phase, including the community members and relevant authorities, have successfully addressed the needs and priorities of the beneficiaries, ensuring that the project aligns with their requirements. The high level of satisfaction or agreement among the beneficiaries regarding the implementation and project sustainability indicates that the project was executed efficiently and effectively. The researcher recommends that the community participation should be improved on the beneficiary communities’ participation in the planning process by establishing mechanisms for their meaningful participation.
- ItemBeneficiary Participation And Project Sustainability In Action Aid International Uganda-Projects-masindi Local Rights Program:(Kampala International University, College of Humanities and social sciences., 2012-11) Okuku , RobertThe study was to establish the relationship between Beneficiary Participation and Project Sustainability in Action Aid International Uganda- Masindi Local Rights Program “, the study intended to determined the; (i) Identify the demographic characteristics of respondents in terms of gender, age, and experience in project management, (ii) Establish the level of beneficiary participation in Action Aid-Uganda, Masindi Local rights programs and (iii) Determine the extent of project sustainability in Action Aid Uganda, Masindi Local rights programs. Using a descriptive survey design, data were collected from a sample of 145 respondent’s specifically right holders, Masindi Local Rights Program partners and local council officials using standardized questionnaires as main data collection instrument. The respondents were selected by using purposive sampling, simple random sampling and stratified random sampling. Data were analyzed at uni-variate level using frequency counts, percentage and means using Pearson’s linear Correlation Coefficient at 0.05 levels of significant. The study revealed high level of project sustainability realized due to beneficiary participation in Action Aid international Masindi Local rights program and high levels of beneficiary participation among right holders with certificates. From the findings, there is a significant positive relationship between Beneficiary participation and Project sustainability.
- ItemBusiness Development Service Centers and Development of Small and Medium Enterprises in the Northern Province of Rwanda(Kampala International University, College of Humanities and Social Sciences, 2011-10) Mugisha, JustinThe study was set out to investigate how Business Development Service Centers contributed to the development of SMEs in the Northern Province of Rwanda. It was in form of descriptive research design. The study population comprised of 214 people includes Business development service centers staffs, officials from the Ministry of Trade and Industry, and the Small and medium enterprises’ managers from which a sample of 187 respondents was chosen; using Purposive, simple random and stratified sampling methods. Questionnaires and interview were used in collecting primary data. The collected data were analyzed using Statistical package for social science software (SPSS). The findings revealed that Business development service centers have helped small and medium enterprises’ development through employment creation, business formalization, and increase in income, skills improvement and business growth. The aim of Business development service centers in the provision of business development services to small and medium enterprises is to enable the entrepreneurs to take advantage of market opportunities and to improve the access to skills development opportunities that strengthen entrepreneurial capabilities. The study concluded that there is a developmental relationship Business development service centers and Small and medium enterprises. Business development service centers support the development of Small and medium enterprises and are resourceful as they contribute to solving various constraints faced by them and Small and medium enterprises make more money as a result of empowerment by Business development service centers. The study recommended adequate funding and enough staffs to Business development service centers to facilitate them perform their functions adequately.

- ItemCapacity building and project sustainability in Ngozi province, Burundi: a case study of Agri-business project (PRODEFI)(Kampala International University, 2018) Ndayizeye, LoicThe main purpose of this study was to investigate the contribution of capacity building towards the sustainability of agribusiness projects in Ngozi province, Burundi. The study used cross- sectional research design. It relied more on quantitative approach but was complemented by the qualitative approach in measuring the contribution of capacity building towards the sustainability of agribusiness projects. The data collection instruments used were questionnaires, interview guide and documentary review. The research was conducted in Ngozi province, Burundi. The findings showed that majority (70%) of the respondents acknowledge and commend the role of citizen participation on the sustainability of agribusiness through capacity building. Community involvement and local leaders’ participation is acknowledged by the project beneficiaries at 69.2%. The findings further show that 58% of the beneficiaries of those who attended business planning and management trainings are able to manage the agribusiness project funds and, 54.3% of them acknowledged the promotion of early adoption of new farming technologies by PRODEFI. The study concluded that Capacity Needs Assessment, citizen participation, leadership base and individual skills are four essential elements required in the sustainability of agribusiness projects in Ngozi province. Skills were found to be the main determinant of success or failure followed by preliminary, structured and participatory Capacity Needs assessment activities, followed by the citizen participation in terms of decision making and the implication of local leaders in development initiatives. The main Purpose of the study was to establish the challenges faced by UN agencies delivering emergency response projects in South Central Somalia. The required data was collected from various UN Agencies delivering emergency response projects in South Central Somalia, through questionnaire guides for primary data and secondary data being the library, internet and analyzed using Microsoft Excel and SPSS. Questionnaires and Observation methods were used to collect data from the respondents; self-administered questionnaires were ideal. The questionnaires comprised of both closed-ended and open-ended questions. Out of the 65 questionnaires distributed, the researcher only receives 62 questionnaires back. The research show that the decline of humanitarian space, security concern, clan dynamics, continued fighting between the TFG and insurgents, logistics and transportation, lack of government institutions, among others are the challenges facing the UN Agencies. The study therefore recommends that; the international community should either develop a strategic plan toward humanitarian assistance for Somalia or support the TFG both in kind and capital to reach the humanitarian need of the needy people in Somalia, U.N agencies and member states should fully fund and staff emergency humanitarian assistance program to meet the needs of vulnerable Somali people

Using rural sector support programme as the case study. It was carried to assess the challenges that the projects experienced in maiming its financial resources, the causes to such challenges, the impacts the challenges are having on the effectiveness of the project and the variables strategies that were being put in place to solve the challenges that R SSP was facing. The study used a descriptive research design to bring out explanations on the causes, challenging and impacts of poor financial management on the performance of RSSP. It focused on the government official from the ministry of agriculture, the management of RSSP project and the agriculturalists who are the beneficiaries of the project. It used a sample size of 80 respondents who were selected using simple random sampling and purposive sampling respectively. Data was collected using questionnaires and interviews and was analyzed qualitatively using thematic analyzed. From the findings of the study it was founds out that RSSP faced a lot of financial management challenges which included, in financing, failure to meet deadlines and fixed budgets. These were being caused by dependency on donations, poor planning, poor project design and government interferences, these had resulted into delays in meeting deadlines, accumulation of debts, failure to procure goods in time and collapse of some sub-projects. the challenges were being solved by obtaining loans from the central bank, recruitment of more to curb down corruption. Therefore, it was concluded that RSSP project faced a lot of challenges in financial management however, the government was putting in place every effort necessary to solve all those challenges.
