    Teachers motivation and academic performance of students: a case study of Kereri Secondary School, Kisii District

    This study was carried out to investigate teachers' motivation and academic performance of students. To establish the types of motivation used in Kereri secondary school. To determine whether the methods of motivation used contribute to academic performance in the school. From the research study, it was evident that there existed a notable relationship between a teacher motivation and academic performance of students in the subject handled by the same teacher. It was note -worthy that rewards given to teachers boosted their morale and this subsequently improved student's performance. Verbal praises have noted to be almost trivial as compared to material rewards, promotions and financial rewards. From the study, it was found that when teachers were rewarded, they worked harder and this motivated disinterested learners to learn and also preserved and fostered the enthusiasm of those who were interested in learning. Therefore, extrinsic motivation plays significant role in determining the performance of students in academic. The study recommended that the government, through the TSC, should work closely with the heads of schools (both primary and secondary) in order to ear mark industrious teachers for promotions. Prize giving ceremonies should be held in schools on termly basis to reward teachers and students for their good performance. The government and the heads of schools should over-rely on extrinsic motivation as opposed to intrinsic motivation.

    Analysis on school dropouts in Machakos District Eastern Province of Kenya

    The study topic was analysis on school dropouts in Machakos district of Eastern province of Kenya. The study was guided by the following specific objectives: to investigate the causes of school dropouts in Machakos district, to establish the effects of school dropouts in Machakos district and to establish strategies to curb school dropout cases. A case study design was used and the study was a cross section survey which involved head teachers, parents and students of selected schools who gave a detailed account of their views with regards to the cases of school dropouts in Machakos district. The researcher used both qualitative and quantitative methods of research. Interviews and questionnaires were the tools used and both primary and secondary sources of data were used and formed part of this research. The findings reveal that the major causes of school dropout are poverty, drug abuse, family problems and unwanted pregnancies. The effects of school dropout as identified are joblessness, increase in crime rate, as well as poverty and underdevelopment. Appropriate strategies have been suggested to curb the phenomenon of school dropout. Some of these include involvement by the government by offering more bursaries, girls who drop out of school should be given a second chance to continue after delive1y. The researcher gave the following recommendations, guidance and counseling, public awareness, the government should offer more bursaries and other financial assistance and finally the government should intervene on the issue of students joining businesses. From the findings, the researcher concluded that the problem of school dropout is still a big problem in Machakos district with many students dropping out each year. Education being a key to development and to the ability of a country to keep up with the first moving technological change, it 1s of paramount importance that this problem be discouraged.

    School learning resources and academic performance in secondary schools: a case of Busia senior secondary school Busia district Uganda

    The major purposes of the study was to determine the school learning resource and academic performance of students in secondary school a case study of Busia senior secondary school, Busia Uganda. The specific objectives of the study were to determine the relationship instructional materials and academic performance of secondary education, find the relationship between class sizes and academic performance of secondary education, establish the relationship between playing materials and academic performance of secondary education and to find out the relationship between teacher quality and academic performance of secondary education. The methods used for data collection were questionnaires to the teachers and interviews the head master. It was established that instructional materials are important for students to perform well in academics. The study also revealed that students understand well in the class when the class size is not too big According to the study praying is important for students because it helps them concentrate in class and therefore perform well in academics. The government should make sure that the schools have all the learning materials for the students to understand what they are being taught.

    Motivation of teachers and academic performance of learners in selected schools of Makindye division, Kampala district, Uganda

    The study investigated the teacher motivation and how they affect the performance of students in Makindye Division Kampala district of Uganda. The objectives of the study were to investigate whether the teachers transfer affect academic performance of students, determine whether teacher promotion affect students' academic performance, determine whether increase of teachers' salary affect the academic performance of students. The methods used in data collection were interviewing and observation questionnaires to the respondents who were the teachers, who were the major respondents in this study and a focus group discussion with the students who also provide some vital information. Findings show that teacher transfer, promotion and increase in teachers' salary affect the academic performance of students in a positive way. Recommendations were made on findings which included among others that government should make sure that teachers should be given something to motivate them so that they feel appreciated and also improve on their performance and that schools should make sure they reward teachers who are hardworking to encourage them do more than they are doing.
