Abstract
The study investigated the research study titled "The impact of inventory management on the profitability levels of Uganda cooperative saving and credit unions in Uganda, with a case study of Uganda cooperative saving and credit union in Kampala district. The study was carried out at Uganda cooperative saving and credit union which has a total population of 170 people from which a sample size of 119 respondents was randomly selected. The study had three specific objectives and research questions which included; establishing the effectiveness of inventory system on the profitability levels of Uganda cooperative saving and credit union, identifying the inventory management systems of Uganda cooperative saving and credit union and thirdly, establishing the contribution of inventory management on profitability of Uganda cooperative saving and credit union. The study was quantitative as the findings were descriptively presented with tables and graphs to gain a better understanding of the topic under study. The findings of the study revealed the following: Majority of the members in this cooperative union are males with 67.2% and majority are in the age bracket 31-45 with 50.4%. hence majority are married with 50.4%. indicate that Inventory management and profitability are significantly correlated (r =-0.355).the sig. value indicate that there is positive and slgnificant correlation (sig. = 0.000 <0.05) leading to a conclusion that Inventory management significantly improves profitability at 5% level of significance., Uganda cooperative saving and credit union has a well established inventory management system which is FIFO as supported by 90% of the respondents and 70% of the respondents are coping with the system although they are illiterate. Inventory management is more important to the production department and store department. Uganda cooperative saving and credit union is faced with challenges as limited storage space, poor decision making, under/over estimation of inventory and so on. As a result of these, the researcher gave the following recommendations: Adoption and implementation of more inventory management Systems, good decision making by the management and members of Uganda cooperative saving and credit union, separation of duties regarding inventory management, seeking government intervention and supp01i.
