Abstract
The performance of mathematics in the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (K. C P E) has
been dismal, a situation many have said to be sad and wanting.
children from more than 50% of the Kenyan population who live below the poverty line do not
attend school regularly, due to unknown reasons. This has really worsened the performance in
C.C.P.E. The researcher therefore ventured to find out the impacts of absenteeism on the
performance of mathematics of the learners.
after the report, the necessary recommendations will be made to the Government of Kenya, the
ministry of Education, the Teachers Service Commission and the Education Management
committees to device new methods and approaches to curb the problem of absenteeism m
schools in order to achieve the educational goals and objectives.
the study was carried out in a public Primary School in Gucha-South District-Kenya.
