dc.description.abstract | Acute appendicitis contributes a significant proportion to surgical emergencies. Early diagnosis of this condition guides timely surgical intervention. The Alvarado’s score is one of the feasible tools in the diagnosis of acute appendicitis in resource-limited settings but its diagnostic accuracy is poorly documented in Uganda.To determine the use of the Alvarado’s score in the diagnosis of acute appendicitis amongst patients presenting at JRRH. Retrospective review of patients records from September 2017 to September 2018.Alvarado’s score, Appendicitis, Appendectomy, Diagnosis, Accuracy, Uganda Results: 137 patients were found to be clinically diagnosed with AA, of these 122 had a surgical diagnosis and 15 had other ailments. Of the 122, majority were male with a male to female ratio of 3:2. 54 (47%) of the patients, which was the majority were aged 26-35 years. AA still emerges as one of the most common surgical emergencies with a higher predilection to the male gender and the young adults. | en_US |
