Abstract
A Study was conducted to assess the factors affecting the girl child's learning process in southern Sudan
case study of Yei County in central equatoria. The research was intended to investigate the impacts of
culture and religion on girl child education, to establish whether the social economic conditions favor girl
child education, to establish whether the national policy on education and curriculum is compatible with
the girl child education.
Data collection, processing and analysis were done with help of tables, frequencies and percentages for
both qualitative and quantitative data. Primary data was obtained through personal and oral interviews
with respondents. Secondary data was gathered from a review of related literature from journals, mainly
questionnaires, focus group discussions, observation, existing records/ documents and interviews were
used.
The recommendations include, sensitization of the public on the importance of girl child education,
establishment of a gender sensitive education policy, banning cultural practice that impede girl child
education and lastly parents ,teachers, students meetings and seminars should be encouraged and
establishing and encouraging school going girls to paiticipate in extra curricular activities such as spo1ts,
debating clubs, Christian clubs.
