Abstract
The study investigated the relationship between mass unemployment and
academic performance. The study was guided by specific objectives that
included; identifying the cause of unemployment, the effects of unemployment on
academic performance and the relationship between mass unemployment and
academic performance.
The study was descriptive and analytical in nature where purposive sampling
was used to select population. It employed 50 respondents. Data were analyzed
and presented using frequencies and percentages and were tabulated.
The major findings of the study were; most of the respondents were males,
causes of unemployment were technological advancement, solutions to the
causes where encourage labour mobility, work sharing, early retirement and
among others. Effects are poor performance, absenteeism, lack of reading
materials and dependency. And the relationship included daily attendance and
availability of reading materials.
