Abstract
The study was conducted to assess the effects of cash management on the growth of small scale
businesses in Gayaza market. The main research objectives were to assess the role played by
cash management skills on the growth of small scale businesses in Gayaza market; to find out the
cash management skills used in businesses in Gayaza, to investigate on the relation between cash
management skills and the growth of small scale businesses in Gayaza market, to know the
challenges facing small scale businesses in Gayaza market. Simple random sampling teclmique
of data collection was used to select sample for the study. The researcher gave out 84 typed
questionnaires to answer and all were returned and well attempted but out of 27 questions in the
questionnaires only 3 questions were not answered.
The researcher used self-administrator questions after distributing questionnaires to t.'ie
respondents of different categories of occupation to tick according to their views depending on
the nature of the questions set in the questionnaires. Cash management skills like setting credit
terms and condition to the debtors as far as credit sale is concerned it has contributed towards the
growth of small scale businesses in Gayaza market in some ways and this include, recovery of
large amount of debts from debtors by encouraging debtors to meet the date line stated by the
business for settlement of obligations. The relationship that exist between cash management
skill and the growth of small scale businesses in Gayaza market include, increases in stocks size
transfers from small business location to the large premises. However, businesses in Gayaza
market are facing major challenge of increasing competition.
