| dc.description.abstract | This study was guided by research topic Gender Based Violence and Women’s Participation in the Socio-Economic Development of Panyagara Sub County, Kotido District, Karamoja Sub Region, the research objectives were to find out the types and forms of gender based violence, the causes of gender based violence, and the impact of gender based violence on women’s participation on the socio-economic development of Panyagara Sub County in Kotido. The literature reviewed indicated that number of cross-cultural studies of women abuse have found that most gender based violence involves male anger directed against their women partners. This gender difference appears to be rooted in the way boys and men are socialized—biological factors do not seem to account for the dramatic differences in behavior in this regard between men and women. The study employed qualitative and quantitative approach, which used both cross sectional survey and descriptive research design for collection and analysis of data. It allowed the researcher to understand how participants understand, interpret and experience a particular phenomenon by focusing on the participants’ views and perspectives of their everyday experiences The findings show that looking at the prevalence of and reasons for gender based violence among women from low socio-econcmic communities of Kotido, cross-sectional study were conducted to estimate the prevalence of gender based violence and identify the reasons for it among 50 respondents aged 15-45 years in low socioeconomic areas in Panyagara Sub County. Low educational status were the commonest reason for gender based violence followed socio-economic inequalities and cultural values and beliefs. There is a need to address this problem with efforts from community workers, policy-makers, nongovernmental organizations and others. | en_US |
