dc.description.abstractThe study was to determine the influence of financial skills on performance of SMEs in Sironko Town Council. The objectives of the study were to establish the contribution of financial skills on performance of SMEs in Sironko Town Council. To determine factors that hinder the performance of SMEs in Sironko Town Council and to establish measures for improving financial skills competence in SMEs in Sironko Town Council. The study was conducted in Sironko Town Council among the SMEs were data was collected from 60 SMEs using the researcher questionnaires, the research adopted a descriptive research design were data was presented in form of frequency and percentage. The study on the first objective conclude that financial skills can generate performance though the skills on finance are not fully embraced by the SMEs, hence conclude that the provision of financial skills of savings and financial management can generate performance for the SMEs, The study on the second objective conclude that SMEs are seriously faced by several factors, these include limited funding, taxes and unfair business laws, the study conclude that these factors have highly hampered SMEs growth in the Town council. On the third objective, the study concludes that measures such as training, innovations and funds provisions to the starting of the businesses. The study concludes that there is need for avenues of attempts to increase awareness for the business in a bid to attain increased performance. The study recommends that awareness be created to the SMEs on the importance of participating in financial literacy training program to quip the staff with financial literacy skills. The study also recommends that stakeholders providing financial skills should consider adding ICT as one of the critical components of the training as this opens more doors to source for raw materials at fair prices. Through technology, businesses can get greater access to markets for their finished products as well as to new and cheap technology for use in production through the use of the internet. On the second objective, the owners of the surveyed SMEs need to immediately consider appropriate employee training programs for their personal. This will prove beneficial in the long-run as performance is positively linked to motivate subordinates. On the third objective, most of these SMEs are not locally and internationally competitive.en_US
