Influence of youth participation towards the social-economic development of the community: a case study of Kashari Subcounty Mbarara District in Western Uganda

Abstract
The study was conducted within Kashari sub—county Mbarara district which was found being underdeveloped as/ar as 50cm—economic development was concerned in the stutdi~ J~~lie purpose of/his s/itt/i’ was to analyze the influence of youth participation in sOcio—econOnhic development of the conununity in Kashari Sub—county Mbarara di.ctrict. Under this purpo.ve of the studi’. the study u’as guarded by three nia/or objectives these included, the roles of youths in socm— economic de~’elopinent, factors in/Iuencing youths participation in socio—econoinic development and final/v the challenges that face youths during community development. The s/ut/v used ho/li quantitative and qualitative techniques in order to come—up ii’ith the correct data that iieie needed for the report in addition to this. the study used as ample size of 30 respondents of whom were the civil savants, Non—go vernniental organizations, youths and eniplovers that ii’ere hai’ing the necessary infOrmation concerning the study in question. Finding.c revealed that there here cli/fOrent roles played by youths during community development including community policing, creation ofawareness and sensitization among the community members, taking part in decision making and uiios! nnportantlv in resource mobilization. During the studi.’ it n’as fOtoul out that these youth fhce di/jkrent challenges as the take direct and indirect participation in comnnouti’ development these included lack of’ active government, over population, unskilled labor fOrce. lou’ level of’ education, limited resources, health disparities, and lack of political u’ill aluotug others’. The problem could be solved by providing credits, ensuring government commitment, access to resources, and provision of vocational training to attain practical skilLv. Basing on the findings of the study, it ii’as concluded that coninuuinit~’ development among youth in Kashari sub— county Mbarara district supported hi’ iou/h of thi.c circa through c/i/ji~rent stakeholcler including government. it ~•vas recommended that there is need to address the issues that limits youths to actively remain part and particil in community development ofKashari sub—county Mbarara cl/strict by increasing pem~concil income, controlling 01cr population. provision of foreign aid, and government should provide basic needs’ of’ services, allow fi’ee youth participation. c,micl even providing quality vocational training fOr the youth in order they can he able to acquire p’cic’/ic’o/ skilLs’ in the area of community development fOr the purpose of developing Kashari sub—county Mharara district.
