The project titled “Students’ Records Management Information System” was undertaken to help the management of Uganda Martyrs High School, Lubaga to manage information capturing of students’ records needed for registration, storage, processing and ensuring data security, consistency and integrity. These records include academic results, fees payments and registration information. The system development model the researcher used was waterfall model. One of the objectives was to critically study related literature and how the current system functions and then work towards designing a system that would address any errors identified in the editing system. By reviewing the literature from different authors about database systems, the researcher was able to gather the required information that gilded me in the systems design. The other important objective was to design a system that would improve on the security of the students’ results and any other transactions carried out between the students and the school. This was achieved by incorporating the use of passwords. Another objective was to design constraints that ensure that data fed into the system is valid and consistent. This was achieved by setting the range limits for data fed into the system e.g. if a user enters a course work mark seater than 40, the system rejects it. The first step to system development was system study and analysis. This phase basically involved the study of the system, identifying the inefficiencies of the current system, the system scope, collection of system requirements and identifying the significance of this project. The requirements collection tools used for the collection included interviews, observation and document analysis. Secondly was the design phase which involved input/output design, database design, logical design, architectural design and then context design. Database design consisted of creating relational tables and the relationships between them. This was made possible by use of MS Access database management system.en_US
