Abstract
The study was carried out to explore the health and nutritional effects
on the primary pupils' performance in Maranda Division, Bonda
District.
Specifically the study set out to explore different conceptions,
participants held on nutrition among the children, the effects on the
academic performance.
These effects were poor performance in examinations resulting from
the irregular attendances, poor interpretation of materials due to poor
brain growth, under enrolment due to high school dropouts caused by
nutritional related diseases and poor concentration in class due to the
temporary hunger kids face during school hours.
Since the current efforts aimed at making education accessible to all
children are general, the following recommendations have been given.
These are;
• Annual oral iron supplementation with low cost treatment has been
recommended where fortification of salt and other products would
improve the amount of iron in their bodies.
• There should be stimulation of protective immunity by periodic
treatments for the parasitic helminths nutritional related infections
among children.
