Abstract
This study investigated the impact of discussion method on student's academic
performance in historical in secondary schools mainly in Makindye West Division.
This study employed the purposive sampling on the use of discussion method in history
teaching and examining the effectiveness of the discussion method and student's
academic performance in history at O' level.
in the findings of the study the majority of the respondents reported that discussion
method clarifies unclear ideas and sharpens issues that are unknown to some discussants.
However, there is need for better relationships between the teachers and students during
the processing or using the discussion method in history teaching since it improves on
self organization, develops moral thinking, gives knowledge around trip encourages team
work living.
The research came out with the following recommendations; teachers need to discover
the learners capabilities of helping each other, good academic structure which is
motivate to students, proper planning by teachers for the best use of discussion method,
there should be self disclose, acceptance and ensuring proper discipline. however, with
all the above well practiced students can register good grades in history.
