This book is a presentation of the findings of the study about the contributions of the NGOs
towards girl child education in Namataba Zone in W akiso District. The study was carried out
primarily to collect data about the subject through finding out how the NGOs contribute
towards the promotion of girl child education, for example finding out what contributions
have been made by CVTS in the promotion of girl child education in Namataba zone,Wakiso
district, assessing the challenges faced by NGOs in the promotion of girl child education, the
impact of CVTS in the area of study, the contribution of government towards the promotion
of girl child education, the challenges faced by government in the promotion of girl child
education, the community contribution towards girl child education in the area and the
possible solutions to the challenges faced by all the stake holders in the promotion of girl
child education in the area of study.
The findings are based on 35 individual students respondents from CVTS and 15 staff
respondents of CVTS.The sample population was selected using random sampling
procedures, the selected people were investigated using questionnaires, face- to- face
interviews and direct observation. Some of the questionnaires were self administered while
others were group administered.
The findings of the research indicated 100% knowledge ofNGOs by the staff of CVTS I lout
of 35 student respondents did not know about NGOS. Of the staff respondents 100%
accepted awareness of some programmes funded by NGOs in the area of study, 8 out of 35
student respondents accepted awareness of programmes funded by NGOs and 27/ 35 student
respondents did not know of any progran1111es funded by NGOs in the area. The large gap
between those who knew and those who did not know implies that NGOs still have a lot to
do to abridge the gap. The findings of the study indicated that there were several funders to
CVTS and such funders included the parents, the community, the government, the Catholic
Church and other NGOs.
The study findings will be of substantial use lo the parents, the community, NGOS and the
government in the promotion of girl child education in the area and the country at large.

education several possible solutions have also been presented which include among others

to participate in community based activities, encouraging paar3ents to engage in Income
Generating Activities( IGAs) to enhance the community's development capacities and
embracing UPE and USE would provide possible solutions to the plight of the girl child in
the area of the study.
