Abstract
The purpose of the study was to determine the effects of stigma on the lives of PWDs in Entebbe municipality particularly in Kitooro and Entebbe central divisions, all found in Wakiso District central Uganda. The objectives of the study were as follows: To find out the forms of stigma faced by PWDs in Entebbe municipality. To analyze the causes of stigma facing PWDs in Entebbe municipality. To find out how stigma affects the lives of PWDs in Entebbe community. The study took a form of descriptive survey design using self-administered questionnaires. It was carried out in Entebbe municipality and it involved 50 respondents. Data was presented and analyzed using frequency tables the findings revealed that negative religious beliefs and practices Ignorance, neglect, negative cultural beliefs, unfavorable policies are majority the root causes of stigma on PWDs in Entebbe municipality. The findings indicated that there are various significant effects of stigma on the lives of PWDs in Entebbe municipality. However, challenges in health access, disrespect in family and marriage, limited access to jobs and market opportunities constitute the major effects of stigma on the lives of PWDs in Entebbe municipality.
