dc.description.abstractThis study established the relationship between decentralization policy and sustainable development in Muhanga district. Specifically, the study sought to determine (I) profile of the respondents, (ii) extent of decentralization policy, (iii) level of sustainable development, (iv) whether there was a significant relationship between decentralization and sustainable development. A descriptive correlation and descriptive comparative were used in the study; data were collected from 346 respondents using research devised questionnaIre as the key data collection instruments. The study population comprised of 2425 people of Muhanga District; A sample of 346 respondents was chosen usIng simple random sampling method. Questionnaires were used in collecting both primary and secondary data. The collected data was analyzed using both qualitative and quantitative methods. It was in form of descriptive research design. The collected data were analyzed using Statistical package for social science software (SPSS). Data were analyzed at univariate level using frequency counts, mean, and Pearson Linear Correlation Coefficient and regression analysis at bi-variate level. The findings revealed that there was a good extent of decentralization policy in Muhanga district, that the level of sustainable development In Muhanga district was good, that decentralization In Muhanga district was significantly correlated with sustainable development, rejecting the null hypothesis. It recommends that Decentralization policy should be well articulated to reflect the financial and human capacities, training and regular monitoring and evaluation of the decentralization implementation activities.en_US
