- ItemAssessment of the impacts of industries on rural environments: a case study Idma Cement Factory-Kasese District(Kampala International University; College of Economics and management, 2010-07) Byaruhanga, EmmanuelThe study aimed at finding out the impacts of industries on the rural environments in Hima Town Council- Kasese District, the objective of the study was; To find out the type of industry in Hima Town Council- Kasese District To discover the factors for industrial development in Kasese District To establish the impacts of industries on the rural environments The researcher used questionnaire format for the beneficiaries, interview guide for officials and observation method to find out the information. The findings of the study were presented by use of tables and edited information from questionnaires and interview guide according to the objective studied, the results revealed that industries have impacted the rural environments both positive and negative and this was evidenced by people acquiring jobs which has contributed to the improvements of the standards of living of the people, more so industries have also contributed to urban growth, and it has also improved on the educational standards, thus, reducing illiteracy in Hima Town Council and to Kasese as a whole. However much the factory has positively impacted on the environments, it has also impacted the rural environments negatively as evidenced by the following; pollution which is the biggest threat to the environments, displacement of the local people- settlement is a tag of war around the factory, and rural urban migration, this has lead negligence of other sectors. In conclusion, industries need combined efforts of central government, community participation so as to improve the delivery of services in Hima Town Council.
