Closer examination of their points of convergence and impacts on tourism reveals otherwise. This paper examines literature focusing on the relationships between tl1ese phenomena. Research themes which emerge from available studies include impacts of terrorism and political instability on tourist demand, motives of terrorist in targeting tourist, using tourist as a political tool, the effects of political violence on destination image, crisis management, and recovery marketing efforts. The intend of this research is to synthesize research on these relationships, to present a comprehensive index ofrelevant publications, and to suggest topics for future research.

Data collection is done by the research from the available literature from the text books, journals, research reports and the internet. The finding of the study will show the nature of motivation that influences the employee in the hotel industry. It will establish the relationship that exists between motivation and employee performance, factors of motivating employee and attitude of employees towards motivating factors. The findings of the study will be used to simulate employee performance in the hotel industry of Uganda.
- ItemThe impact of training to employee performance in the hospitality industry: a case study of Grand Imperial Hotel Kampala(Kampala International University, College of Economics and Management, 2009-08) Nakiyingi, FlorenceThe study investigated, The Impact of Employee Training to Employee Performance in Grand Imperial Hotel from 2005 to 2008. Objectives that guided the study included; investigating the relationship between training and performance, to establish areas of training in order to determine performance, to identify the measures put in place to ensure improved training and performance. The study was both descriptive and analytical in nature where it based on primary and secondary data to establish the magnitude of the study. Primary data based on quantitative and qualitative data designs. Qualitative data designs included; interviews, observation and Focus Group Discussions. Quantitative data were gathered through questionnaires. Documentary analysis was the basis upon which secondary data were gathered. A total of 40 respondents were employed to answer the research questions where random sampling was used in selecting the respondents from a target population of employees in Grand Imperial Hotel. About the findings on the relationship between training and performance; the study reported learning new skills for practice, training for problem solving, helps to discover employee weakness and strength, helps to attain attention and concentration towards work, prepares one for work environment, creation of diversity in work, reported enhance interpersonal acceptance and creates initial impression of the organization to the employee. Areas of training that determine employee performance in GIH; were reported as skills development, improvement in behavior, attitude and dimensions of work, decision making, new cultures, communication and technological adoption. On the Measures put in place to ensure improved Training and Performance; were reported as understudy assignment, job knowledge tool for skills development, discipline and counseling, performance management standards, lateral transfers, records of critical incidents, compensation administration, employee benefits and exposing them to new culture.
- ItemThe role of habituated wildlife in tourism development of Uganda: a case study of Uganda Wildlife Education Center(Kampala International University.College Of Economics and Management, 2009-09) Proscovia, ShidaThe research topic was on the role of habituated wildlife in tourism development of Uganda. The case study of the research was Uganda Wildlife Education Center (UWLEC). The total percentage of the respondents was 60;- there were 10 Political leaders, 10 UWLEC officials, 10 tourists and 30 community members were involved in the study. The research involved both qualitative and quantitative data collection methods in which questionnaires and structured interview guides were used to get the data and data was collected edited, coded, and later tabulated and later analyzed in chapter four. The researcher found out that there are many types of animals being habituated in Uganda and these included; chimpanzees, gorillas, elephants, and L'Hoest's Monkey were the major types of animals being habituated in Uganda. The researcher also concludes that the on the economic benefits of habituated tourism in Uganda, it was revealed that; Greater diversification of economic activities, increased local employment, increased revenue, and increased income. On the dangers of habituated wildlife, the researcher concludes that death of humans, poor sanitation, destruction of crops, spread of vector-borne diseases, and environmental degradation are the remarkable dangers of habituated wildlife in Uganda.
- ItemThe effects of advertising to sales performance: case study of Lake Bogoria Hotel in Kenya(Kampala International University; College of Economics and management, 2009-09) Ngetich, Tirop F.The study, was carried to investigate the effects of advertising to sales performance in Lake Bogoria Hotel. It was guided by a number of objectives, which is to know different advertising mechanism employed in the hotel industry, to assess the influence of advertising to sales performance and to examine the challenges of advertising in Lake Bogoria Hotel .The study mainly concentrated on Lake Bogoria Hotel customers and employees. It determined the effects of advertising to sales performance since the company was faced with stiff competition, declining sales and rivalry from other hotels. Questionnaires were issued out and random interviews was also carried out .The study revealed that various forms of advertisement may be employed by Lake Bogoria Hotel. These include electronic print, brochure, website among others. The study further revealed that these different methods of advertisement have improve on the hotel sales in terms of value and efficiency ,increased publicity, income demand among others thus indicating a positive relationship between sales and advertisement. However the positive relationship came at a cost; poor perception, limited coverage, high costs, competitors influence, high level of illiteracy were among the challenges faced by the hotel and its bid to advertise. From the research findings the following recommendations can be emphasized that for high customer satisfaction scores, the hotel should ensure it performs very highly on all possible variables and soft issues of image building, skillful product information fit and ease of hotel locality. Customers need to be informed, educated, persuaded, reminded and given an actual change of image to make innocent customers who had already changed their minds to other places.

- ItemTotal quality management and employee performance. a case study of hotel intercontinental, Nairobi.(Kampala international international: College of Economics and Management, 2010-05) Mary, Gutia NyokabiThe need for total quality management (TQM) of services has become increasingly relevant in the Kenya's' hospitality industry. But only a few people in the industry are aware of the concept TQM in the daily running of their business. This is the main reason that has prompted to this study. The entire study has focused its attention to evaluating, and assessing the efforts put by the management team of the Hotel Intercontinental Nairobi towards promoting TQM whilst adjusting to fast changing guests' preferences and behavior and increasing competition. Specifically, the study begins by vividly defining the following concepts, which are key words: quality, service, quality service, quality management, quality management systems, total quality management, hospitality industry and hotel. Definition of these concepts will make it easy to understand the flow of the work. Various studies relating to TQM of services contacted elsewhere and relevant literature are cited. The actual research was contacted through questionnaires, personal observation, and review of relevant materials like textbooks, brochures and journals. Both junior staffs and managers were required to fill in questionnaires which covered the following; motivation, challenges, empowerment, benefits of providing quality service, training, and management style. Out of38 questionnaires 22 were returned and used in the data analysis. The data collected were tabulated, frequencies and percentages calculated. The finding from the research indicated that the majority of the junior staffs acquired knowledge about TQM while at the work place rather than in college or school. Also according to the findings most junior staffs have a general background of quality service in regard with TQM. According to junior staffs one of the most benefits of adopting quality service is the fact that the hotel gains total revenues. Lastly the research indicated that one of the challenges facing total quality service management is lack of inadequate facilities and equipment. From the findings it was recommended that the hotel should encourage teamwork, empowerment of junior staffs, training and motivation to achieve TQM concept.
- ItemTourism activities and destinations' development (a case study of Ngorongoro conservation area-northern Tanzania)(Kampala international international: College of Economics and Management, 2010-05) Francis, Saiguran LaizerThe study on Tourism Activities and Destination Development was carried out in Ngorongoro Conservation Area in Tanzania with specific _aims of finding out tourist activities carried out as well as their effects and challenges on the local community. To comprehend this problem the study reviewed literature on the main variables through use of an exploration research design which observed both qualitatively and quantitative approaches administered on a sample of 60 who included the community leaders and employees from tour companies as respondents by help of questionnaires, interview guide and observation method. The study established that there were two types of tourism activities which included both man made and natural tourism activities. These activities were noted to generate employment opportunities for the communities’ members as well as generating incomes, improvement of infrastructure and upraising of sustainable practices. The study established the challenges experienced in the industry to be environmental degeneration, global warming and poor infrastructure. The study concluded that tourism activities are of vital economic importance to the communities because they generate incomes and build skills and natural talents and that it not necessary mean being educated to have art skills to work under the tourism activities. But on the negative the youths were becoming morally degenerated which calls for immediate concern. The study concluded that poor practices carried out on the land with an intention of gaining without conserving the land degenerate it and deter others tourists from coming in this calls for control of the local community especially in case where some of them lack indigenous knowledge to conserve the natural vegetation. This particularly because when trees and felled they need to be replanted in order to trap the excessive carbon dioxide from the atmosphere the study recommended the need to build policy support, building institutional collaboration. Provision of approach, tools, and marketing material, empowerment, networking and dissemination and stricter laws.
- ItemTheme Parks and Contribution to Urban Tourism Development: A Case Study of City Cabannas, Village Market, Jolly Roger Theme Park, Splash Water World And The Rim Center.(Kampala International University, bachelors degree in tourism and hotel management, 2010-05) Muturi, David Ng' ang' aThe main focus of the study is urban tourism development in Nairobi city with a special attention to theme parks within the city. The study sought to identify and streamline the various theme parks in Nairobi. Their roles in promoting urban tourism development and the challenges and prospects of operating and sustaining such theme parks. Precisely, the study was conducted through interactive visits to the study areas which arethe City Cabannas, the village market, the Jolly Roger theme park, the Rim and splash water world. Qualitative and quantitative methodologies of research were invoked. Questionnaires were presented to the respondents, interactive interviews and observations of the respondents in situ were also employed. It was found out that the theme parks are a paramount feature of urban tourism development. The parks have provided a recreational and entertainment centre for the visitors. The parks are socialization centers with a domestic family appeal also attracting foreign tourists who visits them as complementary products to other tourism products. It was also discerned that that the visitation of the parks is seasonal the parks receiving a good turnover during the weekend and holidays. The location of the theme parks was also strategic with the theme parks being situated along highways and outside the busy city centers and also proximate to the airports and other tourists' attraction products. The problems involved in the operation of the them parks were found varying with the time of commencement of business and later on in the running of the parks. The problems identified were: interrupted visitations, capital and maintenance funds, treatment costs for example for pool water, poor marketing to reach out potential visitors, stiff competition among the parks and other tourism products, lack of enough facilities but to mention a few. The various opportunities realized from the study are, the increased urban population, supportive role played by theme parks to other tourism products, the strategic location of the park, the diversification of other tourism products by the theme parks, the facilities in the parks mostly are favorable for children entertainment.
- ItemAttitude of local communities towards conservation. a case study of Amboseli national park.(Kampala international international: College of Economics and Management, 2010-06) Lydia, MetianThere is debate on what is the attitude of people living around protected areas. In this case, the attitude of the local community living around Amboseli National Park is assessed. The study also tries to establish how the national park can affect the immediate adjacent neighboring community both socially and economically. The relationship between the park management is also determined. Data was collected using both qualitative and quantitative methods. Five villages of lllasit, Nkama, Entonet Mortot and Namelok were considered. Results showed towards the local communities nearest to the park have suffered the social - economic impacts of the park. The local people's attitude towards the park greatly influenced the park management. Also the relationship between the park management and the local people has been in terms of employment, infrastructure development, security, income generation and education. Most of the local people depend on the park on their livelihoods since they sustainably collect weaving material from the park. As in many protected areas worldwide, Amboseli conservation problems largely result from conflicts of interest over land use. These include wild life hunting, cultivation and tradition resource uses among others. These problems have been overcome through; Revenue sharing, working together, income generating activities for local people, learning about the forest and problem animal control programs has been put in place. The study recommends that the park authorities should ensure that they develop a friendly environment and cooperate with the local communities to improve and manage the park resources.

NgwelleThis research report is a result of descriptive and evaluative study of the assessment on effective of motivation on job performance, not only to the individual employee but also to the external customer of the entire organization. The study was carried out at Hotel Sea cliff dar-es-salaam Tanzania. During the study, both primary and secondary data collection techniques were used. The primary data collection involved dissemination of questionnaires, interviews and observation, while in secondary data collection; the researcher reviewed various documents as well as reports. The study involved the sample of 40 respondents. The unit of inquiry included, top managers, head of departments and subordinates staffs and some of the external customers. Evaluation of motivation in job performance was based on various aspect which include loans to the employee of the company, transport facilities to the workers bonus for the best performance, medical services, and annual leave payment, and condolence money, promotion to the employees and to employees training. The study found out that motivation at Hotel Sea Cliff is effective to a certain extent, both to the external customer and internal customer (workers). The research study recommends the following to decentralize the power and authority. They must delegate some of the power and authority to their respective heads of department, Hotel Sea Cliff must put emphasis on division of labor as a means to increase effectively and adopt a transformation progressive type of leadership that encourages employees training.
- ItemAssessment of the impacts of industries on rural environments: a case study Idma Cement Factory-Kasese District(Kampala International University; College of Economics and management, 2010-07) Byaruhanga, EmmanuelThe study aimed at finding out the impacts of industries on the rural environments in Hima Town Council- Kasese District, the objective of the study was; To find out the type of industry in Hima Town Council- Kasese District To discover the factors for industrial development in Kasese District To establish the impacts of industries on the rural environments The researcher used questionnaire format for the beneficiaries, interview guide for officials and observation method to find out the information. The findings of the study were presented by use of tables and edited information from questionnaires and interview guide according to the objective studied, the results revealed that industries have impacted the rural environments both positive and negative and this was evidenced by people acquiring jobs which has contributed to the improvements of the standards of living of the people, more so industries have also contributed to urban growth, and it has also improved on the educational standards, thus, reducing illiteracy in Hima Town Council and to Kasese as a whole. However much the factory has positively impacted on the environments, it has also impacted the rural environments negatively as evidenced by the following; pollution which is the biggest threat to the environments, displacement of the local people- settlement is a tag of war around the factory, and rural urban migration, this has lead negligence of other sectors. In conclusion, industries need combined efforts of central government, community participation so as to improve the delivery of services in Hima Town Council.

VivianThe research was aimed at investigating and elaborating the Impacts of tourism on environmental management, a case study of Nakuru National Park, Kenya. The objectives of the study were: to find out Impact of tourism on the actual environmental management concepts , to identify the impacts of tourism on the overall understanding of the environment at the Nakuru National Park, Kenya and to draw indicative summaries of this on the actual performance indicators within the sector. The research was done within Nakuru National Park Environment where data collection as through interviews with stakeholders, questionnaires, observations, library and internet. Stratified random sampling procedures were used to select the sample. The researcher used frequency distribution tables in the analysis findings. It is evident from the research that there is a relationship between the impact on tourism development on environmental management in the institution and this was shown by various researches and references that were used throughout the study. It is therefore generally understood that tourism development plays a huge role in determining the performance of the environment a strong emphasis is laid down in the environmental position of the tourism sector especially at all its performance stage to create a holistic performance concept with an external support mechanism measure within itself.

- ItemAssessment of Uganda government ‘s contribution to tourism training institutions in Uganda: a case study of the hotel and tourism training institute Jinja(Kampala International University, College of Economics and Management., 2010-09) Caroline, GwiinaTourism is one of the world’s leading industries, and it contributes greatly to Uganda’s economy. like all service industries, the quality of service offered is vital for favorable competition in the world market, and quality service delivery depends on the level of training and professionalism of the service providers. tourism is also a practical field with high costs of training which raises the overall cost of pursuing an education in tourism. in Uganda in particular, the cost of education is increasing every year, especially at higher levels of learning. this high cost of training makes government contribution to tourism training necessary for development of a skilled workforce in the industry. this study examines the government’s contribution to the hotel and tourism training institute of jinja, which is the only public institution established by MTTI to offer training in hotel and tourism studies. this study examines the government’s contribution to the institute, identifies various government policies aimed at facilitating it, examines the challenges facing the institute and also provides recommendations from different stakeholders in HTTI and the wider tourism industry on what can be done to overcome those challenges and improve upon the training of students pursuing tourism studies in the institute and the Uganda as a whole.

Elgon National park in eastern Uganda in Mbale district, with the main purpose of investigating the impact of environmental degradation on tourism resources. The study aimed at achieving the following objectives To identify the tourism resources at Mt. Elgon National Park. To identify the environmentally degraded resources in Mt. Elgon National Park. To find out the impacts of environmental degradation in Mt. Elgon National Park Tourism resources. To establish the possible solutions to rehabilitate environmental degradation. The procedures used during data collection include: primary data collection instruments; questionnaires, interviews, and secondary library research on relevant materials. Data was analyzed by the use of descriptive method. The findings were presented in its tables and chats and discussed using the analysis method used. The major findings of the study are that environmental degradation had negative and positive impact on the tourist resources in• Mt. Elgon National Park. The findings of the study also revealed that Mt. Elgon national park is a typical government organization which has been managed upon by the government to effectively provide services for the people and employees. It was recommended that there should be attempts to sensitize people on the• dangers of environmental degradation and the positive impacts of maintaining the natural vegetation and its habitants.
