Radio Rwanda; one of media houses in Kigali city, the IBUKA Association which is an association for genocide survivors, one of the prisons in Kigali city; and The New Times one of the print media houses in the city. - ItemA comparative study of rural accessibility to media information a case of Lukaya sub-county Masaka district(Kampala international international: College Humanities and Social Sciences, 2005-07) Samuel, KobwemiThe mode and level of information dissemination are crucial to social development. The rural communities are basic in realizing social change. But these have to be intensively informed so as to adapt to the new ways of life. The media therefore take the challenge to continuously pass on information to the rural masses. This book presents the findings about the extent to which the media have served the rural communities with information, after studying whether the rural people give audience to the media and how they use the media to get information, if at all they do. The findings of the study in short show that the rural people are able to access radio more than any other media. Audience however is still low because people are limited by factors such as poverty, illiteracy, time and inappropriate programming by the media. Having identified the missing gaps in disseminating information to the rural people, the report suggests suitable ways by which the government, the media and other agencies can adopt appropriate policies for information accessibility by the rural people.
- ItemRole of the Media in Dealing with the Problem of Street Children: A Case Study of Dar-Er-Salam Kinondoni District (Tanzania)(Kampala International University, bachelors degree in mass communication, 2005-07) Peter, NgamiloThe paper examines the role of the media in dealing with the problem facing street children. Taking Kinondoni district in Dar-es-salaam, Tanzania, as a case study. I contend that not enough has been done to address the problem of street children; the problem of street children is a nuisance and burden to many developing societies Street children come as a result of poverty, broken marriages and homes, unwanted pregnancies, abandoning of babies at birth, prostitution and disabilities (physical damage of those parents who can not look after their offspring) So like any other problem which the media use to highlight and helped to tackle like the case of AIDS and poverty, then the problem of street children must also be solved, there must be a solution to this problem. I feel the media can play a very important role by informing the general public, nongovernmental organisation (NGO's) and the Government to come together and find the lasting solutions to the problem of street children.

What they carry, political and necessary management changes that have occurred are t he main development of mass media. What they carry now is determined by a rather crusadic role in the developing of their respective commodities. In a country where there are diseases, poverty and ignorance, it will be catastrophic if the mass media were left on their own to print and broadcast as they pleased in the name of the so called Western countries.

The study can also be used in seminars and workshops that have been the main avenues for educating stake holders in fighting the problem of child abuse. The methods used in investigating the problem includes library search where the researcher collected different information from other researchers who earlier researched about the topic. Interview method also was used in collecting data where by a researcher interviewed different people according to the planned population sample and these people were of different age groups and the victims themselves. The main findings of the study include the role of the media in fighting the problem of child abuse through different steps of child. The researcher has arranged those steps of abuse accordingly and each step is being described on how the media has played the role in fighting against the problem. Even this includes the role of the state in eliminating the problem and how the societies in conjunction with the media can help to reduce the problem. Another finding is about the measures taken when the offenders are caught in action practicing child abuse or trying to practice child abuse. In conclusion, the problems of child abuse appear to be on the rise however there is need to put knew knowledge and improve on the existing methods of recognizing incidences of abuse. Responses to rep01t about child abuse are often in adequate, leads to the repetition of the problem. It is recommended that parents and caretakers of the children should rep01t the problem of child abuse as soon as it occurs. This will help the prosecution of offenders. Also the state has to put more efforts in giving rights to children especially when it comes to matters concerning their rights; they have to be given the first priority.

- ItemAn Electronic Records and Document Management System for Health services (A case study of Mulago Hospital Archives)(Kampala international international: College Humanities and Social Sciences, 2005-08) Cranimer, MukwayaMulago Hospital has adopted new technologies that promise to provide significant cost savings and productivity improvements. A by-product of the adoption of this new technology is that business transactions and business decisions are being made electronically. Business records are being created, disseminated and stored in electronic format. The use of these new technologies has improved Mulago 's capacity to respond to customer queries and has generally reduced the time required to conduct a business transaction. The adoption of the new technologies has also resulted in a change in the nature of business records. Mulago Hospital has yet to implement processes to ensure that evidence of these business decisions and transactions is properly managed. Failure to implement adequate records management controls now, will result in exposure to litigation, and loss of productivity as employees struggle to find information they need in order to do their work. This document proposes the implementation of comprehensive electronic recordkeeping processes and systems to ensure that electronic business evidence at Mulago Hospital is properly managed. Mulago Hospital uses a manual system for storing, managing and classifying there records in the hospital which makes the search for patient's records very difficult and takes a lot time, most of the records in Mulago Hospital are stored in stores where they can easily be damaged and the security is not that good. A person can easily walk into the store and get the file, this makes the patients file to be in real quandary. The system is so exasperating as a person has to spend a lot of time looking for a person’s file and at times records may not be traced because they are so many and in bulk. Thus a need for an Automated Records and Document management system that will be able to manage all the records in the Hospital, this system will be able to capture data, register all patients records in the database, make searching easier, generate reports for patients, provide security to the records and patients will able to have access to their records within seconds, handle all electronic documents in the Hospital to mention.

The study adopted a largely quantitative approach in which Uganda Human Rights commission was purposively drawn and a detailed study of the media for example; newspapers, radio, and televisions mention them and other relevant organizations. All the three administrators of UHRC Jinja were interviewed, and also clients who attended mediations at the regional office, were all involved in the focus group discussion. Thematic and content analysis was to manage the data, while a statistical package was used to generate simple fi·equencies, which provided supportive information. The study also showed that while the UHRC and the media are very committed to protecting and promoting human Rights, their eff01is are constrained by several challenges which include; co-ordination and collaboration among implementers, the ignorance of the local population about human rights and inadequate funding and facilitation. The study findings strongly suggest that the media and other government institutions, which protect human rights, together have a great challenge a head of them as they endeavor to reduce violations of human rights in Uganda. The study is presented fewer than 5 chapters. Chapter 1 gives the background to the study and other related issues like the statement of the problem, objectives, research questions, problem analysis significance of the study and the scope.
