- ItemChild nutrition and childhood development among children of zero (0) to five (5) years:(Kampala International University, College of Economics and Management, 2018-08) Nangobi, FazirahThis study sought to find Child Nutrition and Childhood Development among Children of zero (0) to five (5) years: a case study at Mukhesh Madhivan children’s hospital, Jinja district. The purpose of the study was to evaluate Child Nutrition on childhood development among children of zero to five years, with the following specific objectives. (i) To find out the level of child nutrition among children. (ii) To examine the level of Childhood Development among children. (iii) To find out the relationship between Nutrition and Child growth according to weight, height and health among children. The study used a cross sectional study involving 43 parents/caretakers of children aged between zero to five year at the hospital in Jinja. Respondents were selected using sampling non probability method (convenience and purposive) for both quantitative and qualitative data. From the Findings Data analysis that was done using SPSS’s descriptive statistics, it was found out that the Forty four mothers of malnourished children were interviewed indicate that their ages ranged from 17 years to 35 years with a percentage of 68%, whereas those with 17 years and below with a percentage of 32% thus reflecting the young age structure of the population. Furthermore in it shows that out of the 44 respondents, 43% reported living together with their partners, 23% reported being married, 16% reported being single, were divorced, while 7% were widowed. From e conclusion it indicates that Malnutrition is still a major health concern in Uganda, Africa and elsewhere. The study found out that the poverty is the major cause of malnutrition among infants as reported by majority (5 7%) of the respondents. Poverty being a major concern and cause of malnutrition, mothers lack adequate income to afford a balanced diet at least more than three times a week. Finally the recommendation of the study, Nutritional planning: this involves formulation of a nutrition policy and overall term planning to improve production and supplies of food, ensure its equitable distribution and programs to increase the purchasing power of people.
