- ItemImpact of girl child education on community development: a case study of Suam and Kapyoyon Primary Schools in Suam Sub County, Bukwo District(Kampala International University; College of Education Open and Distance Learning, 2018-06) Chemtai, DorisThe study topic was "Impact of girl child education on community development." The case study was Suam and Kapyoyon Primary Schools in Suam Sub County, Bukwo District. This topic was chosen due to the need to develop the community in relation to girl child education in the area. It was against this background that the study attempted to: find out the impact of girl child education on community development in Suam and Kapyoyon, Bukwo District. The conceptual framework of the study suggested that the independent variab le be conceptualized as three factors, namely: level of education of the girl child, level of family income and marital status of parents. The researcher used a cross-sectional survey research design because the study was intended to pick only some representative sample elements of the cross-section of the population. The study was conducted in the two selected primary schools namely: Suam and Kapyoyon Primary Schools. The study population was composed of 2 head teachers, 156 teachers, 567 parents and 1429 pupils of primary six and seven. The total population was 2,154 (head teachers' records) physical visit to the head teachers' offices. The methods used in data collection were questionnaires and interviews. The researcher analyzed the qualitative data collected using structured closed ended items in the questionnaires for each objective and coded using a five point Linkert response scale. They were subjected to frequencies and percentages, which helped to show the distribution of respondents on each of the independent and dependent variable. Raw data was analyzed using descriptive statistics and Pearson Product Moment Correlation. Correlation was used to test the hypotheses in order to determine the impact of girl child education on community development. ANOV A testing was also used to test the influence of the combined independent variable components on the dependent variable. It was anticipated that the findings and recommendations of this study would go a long way in generating the much needed information that would be used by various stakeholders in education to improve on the turn up of their girl children in schools, help both parents and pupils in identifying their areas of strength and weaknesses and make necessary adjustments to fill the gaps in their roles help pupils think of their own learning and redirect their efforts where necessary and in appropriate direction of needs, help parents, educational managers and administrators, recognize the need to educate the girl child in order to develop their community.

It \H,s realized that despite the tireless effons of the international community to stop Female Circumcision the practice still goes on in Kenya. The indigenous people take it for cultural, religious, social conformity, sexuality control among other items thus peqJetuate it. Data was gathered using qualitati\·e methods like intervie\\·s. focus group discussions and observation and quantitative methods \\'here questionnaires were used. Data \\'as descriptive!\· anal\·zed and presented in a statistical \\'ay \\'here percentages, ratios \\'ere integrated in charts, tables, and graphs. - ItemThe impact of training on performance of community based organizations: a case study of community empowerment programme for rural development (ceford)(Kampala international international: College of Education, open and distance learning, 2009-12) Mwachidudu., N. Mwang'ombeThis study is an inspired effort to analyze the impact of training on the performance of Community Based Organization, on an analysis of Community Empowerment for Rural Development. There has been high rate of formulation of Community Based Organizations amongst the Community. Despite being funded by the Government, Non-Governmental Organizations and Inter Governmental Organization, there has been poor performance being observed in service delivery to the Communities. The purpose of the study was therefore to analyze the relationship between training and the performance of Community Based Organizations. By design, this was a descriptive research where both qualitative and quantitative techniques of data collections were used. The population was 60 and a sample size of 48 was used representing all the departments in the organization from Heads of Departments to Field Officers. The instruments used included Questionnaires, Interviews and Focus Group Discussion to obtain data from the respondents. The results of the study reveals that mostly men were the ones involved in the activities of Community Based Organization, On-the-job training was mostly practiced, Mentoring as a form of On -the- job training was mostly practiced in the Community Based Organizations. The study revealed that most Community Based Organizations practiced Annual Performance Appraisal and use training as a means of correcting poor performance. The organizations averagely conduct routine training and use methods like staff training needs assessment, performance appraisal to identify the training needs. The study then concluded that the organizations should practice routine performance appraisal in terms of quarterly, semiannually and annual performance appraisal, use all other measures to improve performance including motivation in terms of promotion, increased salaries and wages and improves working conditions.
