- ItemA comparative case assessment of the development roles of MFIs in Uganda and Bangladesh:a research report submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the award of degree of Masters of Public Administration in the School of Government, Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences, University of the Western Cape(University of the Western Cape, 2007) Mwesigye, Edgar KateshumbwaDuring the last decades of the 20th century, increased attention was given to the provision of microfinance services to low income earners, especially those from poor households of the developing world. This was done in the quest for remedies to the challenges posed by poverty as credit has been indentified as a barrier facing the poor. While the missions of different microfinance institutions (MFIs) varied, the majority focused on improving the social-economic conditions of the poor. However, there is general consensus that microfinance is not for all the poor. One wonders who the poor that benefits from the intervention are. The overall objectives of this thesis were to assess the theory and evaluate the development roles of MFIs in Uganda and Bangladesh. The study in particular focused on MFIs impact on poverty reduction, empowering women, promoting health as well as promoting children’s education in Uganda and Bangladesh. The study preferred the selected countries because Bangladesh is internationally considered as the best practice for microfinance, while Uganda is assumed to be well positioned in terms microfinance compared to other developing countries in Africa. Besides, both countries fall under the divide of developing countries. The question that guided this empirical investigation was whether MFIs empower women, reduce poverty, and promote children’s education as well as health among its beneficiaries in Uganda and whether Bangladesh has important lessons of experience for Uganda. The methodology employed in this study was mainly qualitative. The research investigation included a literature review of the prominent theoretical approaches as well as desktop study of the case Bangladesh. A case on Uganda’s MFIs was developed using relevant literature as well as in-depth interviews with government and private sector experts on MFIs in Uganda, managers of randomly selected MFIs, beneficiaries of MFIs as well as focus group discussion with women beneficiaries in three regions of Uganda where the data was collected. Findings from the study revealed undeniably that MFIs are critical tools for development with strong potential on poverty reduction, empowering women, and promoting children’s education as well promoting better health outcomes among the beneficiaries. In the same vein, the study also gives recommendations and areas for future research.
- ItemThe role of uplift in rural community transformation a case of Nebbi District, Uganda(Kampala International University, College of Humanities and social sciences., 2008) Mehari Woldu, NahidThe focus of the study was the role of UPLIFT in rural community transformation taking Nebbi district as a case study area and the problems in achieving the transformation of the people. The purpose of the study was to analyze the impact of gender literacy in rural communities in Nebbi district. Literatures was reviewed in accordance with the specific objectives that are analyze the contribution made by uplift towards community transformation in Nebbi District, Examine challenges faced by UPLIFT and solutions to the challenges. A Case study design was adopted which helped in investigation on the complex factors that contribute to the individuality of a social unit, the reason for choosing this design is because it studies a specific unit and study it deeply and thoroughly. Qualitative research approach and quantitative research approaches were used to obtain the data that can be measured in numerical figures. The finding of the study indicated that almost all of UPLIFT participants arc women and the participation of men is very low, both men and women have problems in attending the programs but the women take the program more seriously and attend it with joy. The study concludes that UPLIFT uses easy and very practical methods of teaching, supplies a relevant educational material the mentors are visited and get a refresher courses monthly. The study recommends that the Organization should work hand in hand with the other NGO’s that could help in some financial support specially help in making boreholes, English classes to start for the participants that have fmished the local language and the organization should try to practice gender balanced literacy activities.
- ItemEffectiveness of Sub-County Local Administrators’ Performance Management on Service Delivery in Mbale District(Kampala International University, Masters of Public Administration and Management, 2009-06) Manghali Amir, AhmedThis study focused on performance management for effective service delivery in Mbalc district. It intended to establish how Mbale district sub-county Local administrator’s performance management is effective in service delivery by looking at employee competences, qualifications, motivation and satisfaction. The objectives of the study focused were on how performance management methodologies and feedback were used to ensure effective service delivery and also pondered into the challenges faced by Local administrators on performance management. The literature review obtained from textbooks, journals, Internet sources and documents revealed a study gap on Uganda civil servants performance management despite the 1995 government initiative on Result Oriented Management. The methodology of the research design was descriptive as it collected both qualitative and quantitative data. It also involved observing and describing behaviour of the research population. Data gathered from questionnaire survey, structured interviews and Focus Group Discussions was analysed by colleting responses under same research question, and use of spreadsheets. Data was presented in form of notes, graphs, tables and pie charts. Utilizing information obtained from interviews of sub-county Local administrators and Mbale district senior officers, different factors were analyzed on suitable sample data and certain conclusions were derived using proper statistical methods. The findings were that though a link between supervisor and supervisee existed, the latter’s performance ranking on the contrary was dominated by the Halo Effect and feedback didn’t enforce service delivery. Performance evaluations were taken to be an annual evaluation activity as opposed to daily monitoring or application of other appraisal methods. The study drew conclusions that an analysis of employee behaviour and appraisal feedback has a riiche on service delivery and subsequent realisation of sub-county local government objectives, goals and mission. It was recommended that employee supervisors should transcend the common appraisal form and consider other methods of performance management. It was also recommended that further studies be done on employee’s performance appraisal in relation to staff development and service delivery and also qualitative study on civil servants best practices on service delivery in Uganda.
- ItemAssessment of Humanitarian Industry’s Role on Social Economic Development of Rwanda’s Rural Areas: A Case Study of World Vision International Rwanda Programme in Nyamagabe District, 1994 — 2007.(Kampala International University, Masters of Public Administration and Management, 2009-07) Karangwa, DavidThe major challenge facing the Rwandan economy is the issue of low levels of economic growth and economic development and this problem is most felt in rural areas. Rwanda still experiences health problems, low levels of per capita incomes, high levels of illiteracy, high levels of poverty, low levels of education, high levels of infant and maternal mortality rates, lack of basic needs, low levels of life expectancy, under developed social and economic infrastructure, poor standards of living, hunger, lack of safe water and proper sanitation, malnutrition, issues of unity and reconciliation, low levels ofcredit extension schemes and poor methods of agriculture. The study was therefore carried out to find the major challenges facing the Rwandan economy and how various stakeholders such as the NGOs are working towards overcoming such challenges. This study was carried out in Nyamagabe district and the researcher employed both qualitative and quantitative methods ofdata collection. The key findings of this research study indicated that the role of NGOs interventions in different sectors of the economy have significantly contributed towards improved living standards of the rural population by increasing house holds incomes, wealth and accumulation of home assets. However, limited funds and high community vulnerability have made WVR not to fully alleviate Nyamagabe rural poverty. The conclusions drawn show that the role of NGOs interventions in Rwanda’s rural areas is of paramount importance and can not be underestimated. However, the fight against rural poverty still remains at large. The researcher recommends that the government should encourage and support positive NGOs interventions and offer legal facilitation other than viewing them with suspicion and competitors because their contributions towards social — economic development of rural areas can not be under estimated and has been recognized world wide
- ItemKey challenge affecting adoption of agricultural production technologies among farmers affiliated to caritas, case study of Oyam District(Kampala International University, College of Humanities and Social Sciences, 2009-08) Obang won, markThe study was conducted in order to determine the adoption of agricultural production technology among farmers affiliated to caritas, Lira in Uganda. The study sought to determine objectively; to assess the farmers’ attitudes towards the adoption of agricultural production technology among farmers affiliated to Caritas, Lira, to find out the benefits of the adoption of agricultural production technology among farmers affiliated to Caritas, Lira and to establish the relationship between adoption of agricultural production technology and farmers affiliated to Caritas, Lira. The literature review was conducted with the aim of establishing and shading more light on the issues about the adoption of agricultural production technology among Farmers affiliated to different organizations of the process. The researcher collected the necessary using questionnaire and interview methods of data collection. The data was tabulated and then analyzed in order to draw inference from the data collected. The information collected forms the respondents through questionnaires and interview guide questions were used in order to answer the objectives of the study. - ItemContribution of National Agricultural Advisory Service Programme (NAADS) on Commercialization of Agriculture in Rwamucucu Sub-County Kabale District Uganda(Kampala International University,College of Humanities and Social Science, 2009-09) Tindyebwa, JosephThe study aimed at establishing the impact of NAADS programme towards subsistance agriculture in Rwamucucu sub-county guided by the theory of agricultural service provision, through creation of awareness about formation of farmers’ institutions and building their capacity. The study was guided by the following research questions: What is the impact of NAADS on peasant Agriculture? The study was based on the literature that highlighted on the modernization of agriculture and innovations through the delivery of agricultural extension services, addressing challenges to the commercialization of agriculture and depicting the impact of NAADS on the commercialization of Agriculture.The data was collected using questionnaires and interviews. These were administered to the members of farmers groups and the community members. After the data collection exercise, the results were entered in the computer where it was descriptively analysed and interpreted using frequency tables and pie charts.The study found out respondents knew activities of NAADS programme such as, facilitating farmers in advisory services and farmer technology development, providing various improved seeds and marketing of farmers’ products. Farmers are also increasingly promoting production of high value crops like passion fruits, apples, bananas and livestock farming such as goat management, poultry and fish farming. It was also found out that NAADS have promoted greater use of post-harvest technologies and commercial marketing of Agricultural commodities. The study concluded that, there was need to over come the challenges that were prohibiting the commercialization of agriculture. It was recommended that there should be; Provision of legal and policy framework; closer monitoring and supervision of the NAADS programme by stakeholders; Linkage of farmers to market opportunities; value addition; strengthening farmer institutional development; Networking (with NGOs and CBOs) and enhancing the capabilities of public extension workers; increased supply of agricultural inputs to farmers.
- ItemCivil society organizations and the fight against HIV/ AIDS in Bugirii Naluwerere Town Council: ·(Kampala International University, College of Humanities and Social Sciences, 2009-10) Muwanguzi, Mark MboolwaThe study investigated the impact of Civil Society Organizations in the fight against HIVIAIDS in Bugiri/Naluwerere Town Council, taking a case study of Uganda Reproductive Health Bureau (URHB). The study was guided by two hypotheses and one research question. The study examined the relationship between interventions of URHB and the fight against HIVIAIDS prevalence in Bugiri I Naluwerere Town Council; its contribution to the fight against the scourge; the Challenges the organization faces and how these challenges can be addressed. The researcher used a case study design with qualitative and quantitative approaches. The samples used in the study included; URHB Social Workers, Community Leaders and the Beneficiaries. A total of 80 respondents participated in the study. The instruments used in data collection were interview guide, observation schedule and questionnaires. Data collected was analyzed using a chi-square test for quantitative data, while qualitative data was analyzed using content analysis on emerging themes. The study established that URHB had made a significant contribution to the fight against HIV I AIDS prevalence in Bugiri I Naluwerere Town Council. The research also established that the contribution of URHB and perhaps other Civil Society Organizations in the fight against HIV I AIDS prevalence in Bugiri I Naluwerere Town Council had been undermined by a number of challenges, notable among which were; lack of technical and institutional capacity, resource mobilization, diversity of objectives, duplication of services, cultural practices, religious teachings and other socio-economic factors. Also, this organization seemed not to have performed well in the area of influencing behavioral change among the people, more so on part of the sick who XIV received their care and supp01t. The study established that after getting better, some people on ART resume the practice of having unprotected sex with their partners, especially those that may not have seen them sick at one time The conclusion that emerged indicated that while URHB had made a remarkable contribution to the fight against HIV/AIDS prevalence in Bugiri/Naluwerere Town Council, their effmt had mainly been in fonn of sensitization and creating awareness for prevention. The organization lacked the capacity to offer practical solutions in form of economic empowerment and life skills to the high risk groups like commercial sex workers as an alternative to prostitution. Therefore, there was need for more established organizations like TASO and AIC to extend their operations to Bugiri I Naluwerere Town Council, with emphasis on economic empowerment and behavioral change.
- ItemProvision of health care facilities and services in Ojwina Division Lira Municipality(Kampala International University, College of Humanities and Social Sciences, 2009-10) Anyango, Olive NoelThe study was carried out in Ojwina division, Lira municipality with an aim of assessing the extent to which local government has succeeded in the provision of health care facilities and services. The general objective was to assess the extent to which local government has succeeded in the provision of health care facilities and services. The specific objectives were however, to investigate the role of local government in the provision of health care facilities and services in Ojwina division, to identify challenges in health services provision and identify strategies to enhance improved health service delivery respectively. Qualitative method of data collection used was structured interviews and interview guide for both key informants and focused group discussions. The target population was purposively selected from Ojwina division The findings included lack of land for expansion, no lighting provision at the health centre, conflict between the health centre in charge and some councilors, lack of transport, untimely release of funds, inadequate drug supply and some facilities like beds lacking. The recommendations made to the District Health Authorities included urgent and immediate provision of lighting, improved transport system and availability of land.
- ItemChallenges in the development of the Uganda National Land Policy(Kampala International University, College of Humanities and social sciences., 2009-10) Irumba Henry, HarrisonThere have been a number of attempts to address the land question in Uganda in the recent past, but all these attempts have not satisfactory addressed the problem. The study on challenges in the development of the Uganda National Land Policy aimed at finding out the process of Uganda national land policy development; examining the role of stakeholders in the development of the national land policy and investigating the challenges encountered by the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development in the development of the national land policy. To achieve the objectives of the study, both qualitative and quantitative methods of data collection were used. Two districts were selected purposively from the four regions of Uganda. Respondents included the district political leaders; district technical staff; members of private sector organizations, civil society organizations, profession associations, members of the National Land Policy Working Group and members of the public. The study was descriptive in nature and data was analyzed using the statistical package for social scientists (SPSS). The findings of the study indicate that the development of Uganda National Land Policy is a long process which, started with identification of factors contributing to poor performance of the land sector and the process is now at the fourth stage where stakeholders have been consulted country wide and this will be followed by the national land conference where consensus will be built on policy options. The major roles of stakeholders include, for the central government it provides efficient institutions for land management, while civil society organizations and the private sector influence the policy process and ensure transparency through informal personal networks whereas donors support debate and sharing of experiences on land issues and land policy. The challenges encountered by the Ministry in the development of the policy include colonial legacy, cultural practices and poor governance. Others are inadequate funding for extensive stakeholder consultations, identification of stakeholders, balancing people’s views and an inadequate feedback from stakeholders. It was recommended that public institutions build capacity for their civil servants in policy development, source for appropriate funds to sustain the policy development process and develop a communication strategy to manage the feedback mechanism. Finally, a study on challenges faced by the public sector institutions in policy implementation was suggested.
- ItemEffects of conflicts on employees’ performance in organizations: a case of Kampala International University main Campus(Kampala international international : College of Humanities and Social Sciences, 2009-10) Begumya,MarthaThe study examined conflicts and their effects on employees’ performance in organizations, using a Case of Kampala International University (KIU) Main Campus. The study is aimed at establishing the various types of conflicts, their main causes, potential areas (of conflicts), and the effects conflicts have on employees’ performance. Three methods of data collection were used (to study 100 respondents), namely, the self- administered questionnaire, formal and informal interviews. The study found that there are five types of conflicts prevail at Kampala International University. These include: Intrapersonal Conflict, Interpersonal Conflict, Intra-facuIty conflicts, Inter-faculties conflicts, and Inter-organizational conflict. Secondly, the study also found that there are several causes of conflicts at Kampala International University. Among others, they include; absence of materials for staff use, interference of top management in day-to day activities of the university, centralized decision making, lack of employee empowerment, cultural differences which cause mistrust and suspicion, conflicting roles and responsibilities due to job ambiguity, and failure of the university to pay lecturers for the overload. Thirdly, potential areas for more conflicts at Kampala International University abound, and, unless are addressed immediately, they may culminate into more conflicts either in the short run or the long run or both. These, among others, include: poor working conditions; absence or poor customer and client relations; poor command of communication; abrupt and uncoordinated retrenchment/ termination of staff; lack of clear administrative policies and procedures; teaching staff overloaded; poor remuneration of some staff; and lack of adequate amenities for students’ academics. Fourth, majority (over 95%) of the employees at Kampala International University view conflicts as detrimental to employees’ performance. This is because, they believe that conflicts have lead led to unnecessary stress, blockage in communication, lack of cooperation, increased sense of distrust and suspicion, staff absenteeism due to demoralization, loss of morale, and lack of sense of belonging. To overcome the foregoing, the researcher that Kampala International University should Ensure that staff get to know and understand each other better; Ensure good planning for allocation of scarce resources; identify and clarify poorly defined and poorly; Clarify what each individual and each sub-unit is expected to accomplish; Train employees in conflicts management; Reduce unnecessary interferences of top management in lower management affairs; and Streamline the administrative machinery of the University
- ItemThe impact of Kagadi Kibaale community radio 91.7 fm on education in Kagadi town council of Kibaale District(Kampala International University, College of Humanities and Social Sciences, 2010-08) Mumbere, BernardThis study looked at the impact of Kagadi Kibaale Community Radio 91.7FM (KKCR) on education in Kagadi town council of Kibaale district mid western Uganda. Specifically the study sought to assess the contribution of KKCR to the improvement of the quality of education in Kibaale district Empirical data on education obtained from respondents was analyzed both quantitatively and qualitatively to critically examine the impact of KKCR on education The key findings of the study show that the KKCR has had a largely positive impact on educational standards. Education programmes aired on weekly basis with discussion of past papers have greatly improved students performance at all levels. The establishment of the radio in place has crested jobs to the indigenous and the non indigenous citing reporters, presenters editors, managers, correspondents, suppliers and others. The station has bridged the gap of information flow that existed before and it has played a role of mobilization at all aspects of development. The station has acted as hope to victims of rape, domestic violence and defilement through counseling radio programmes The researcher discovered that not all people in the area of study listen to KKCR despite the fact the radio station is near to them. Some of the recommendations by the researcher include the following; KKCR is a unique radio station compared to other stations in place therefore should be used as a training center on the issues concerning community radio broadcasting.
- ItemThe performance of girl-child in Universal Primary Education schools :a case of Kabarole District Uganda(Kampala International University. College of Humanities and Social Sciences, 2010-09) Murungi, JacklineThe study was conducted in Sub Counties of Bukuuku, Kisomoro and East Division, Fort Portal Municipality, Kabarole District. The area of study was purposively sampled for relative representation and manageable geographical scope. The study focused on three—folds; causes, risks and effectiveness of UPE policy strategies to address the variation in academic performance of the Girl-Child. Descriptive research applied questionnaires and interview guide for an in-depth assessment with data edited, coded and tabulated into statistical tables. The findings indicated (52%) social-cultural practices, (21°k) parental negative attitude, (10%) non-conducive school environment and (17°h) economic status, as causes of variation in academic performance of the Girl-Child. Results revealed that, there are cross-cutting strategies implemented to address the causes for the variation in academic performance that included; (19%) of schools applied hygiene practices, (15%) learners sensitized on hygiene, (10%) textbooks placed in learners’ hands, (8%) qualified teachers deployed. The findings showed (4%) schools achieved required 60% Pupil Teachers Ratio for P1- P 3, (7%) Community participation, (4%) schools use Thematic Curriculum Materials and (13%) Local Government and School Management Committee supervised Head Teachers.In conclusion, the social-cultural context influenced parents and community attitude were inter-linked causes for the variation in academic performance. The risks included; teacher’s diminished motivation and girls’ dropout of school. Ministry of Education and Sports should strengthen Non Governmental Organizations to contribute towards the establishment of bathing rooms to cater for their specific gender needs
- ItemThe effect of stress among administration police officers in Kenya(Kampala International University, College of Humanities and Social Sciences, 2010-09) Robert Kariuki, KibuchiLaw enforcement is a stressful profession. It is assumed that police work is among the world’s most stressful occupations. Policemen and policewomen are some of the most misunderstood people in the world. As crime becomes a major social problem in the world today, the public perception of the “men in khaki” is very low. Crime rates have been increasing in most developing countries. In Kenya, everybody is concerned about escalating crime rate. Most parts of Nairobi are considered unsafe and downgraded to class “C” category. It is the police force, which is responsible of crime management. The public has a notion that policemen are not doing enough. They feel that the policemen shoot at people and intimidate them. To justify this conviction they give simple references such as “after all was it not a bunch of police officers who nailed Jesus Christ on the cross?” The study used several inter-related approaches in data acquisition. Three level of Administration Police Officer and members of their families overall 54 Administration Police Officers and 6 members of their family were interviewed. This research project serves as a vital reference point for any meaningful intervention in this area. The principle assumption behind this study is that the mission of Administration Police exits to contribute to National development through the provision of sustainable peace and tranquility to all people in Kenyan. For this to be achieved, common sense and sound judgment must prevail. It has however been noted that high level of stress related illness are causing concern across the entire Administration Police department making it hard for the force to achieve this noble goals. Arising from the study, there is a connection between Administration Police Officers stress and job performance. The study indicated that all the officers working abilities are impaired when they are under stress .This partly explains the cause of bizarre behaviors commonly portrayed by Administration Police Officers.

- ItemGender Training and Gender Equality in the United Nations Peacekeeping Operations: The Case of The United Nations Mission in Sudan (UNMIS)(Kampala International University, Colleges of humanities and social sciences, 2010-10) Rukemanganizi, BernardThe study on Gender Training and Gender Equality in the United Nations Mission in the Sudan (UNMIS) focused on analyzing how gender awareness influences gender equality in UNMIS, how gender planning aspects influence gender equality in UNMIS, how gender analysis aspects influence gender equality in UNMIS and on analyzing factors that affect/influence gender training methods and content in UN MIS. The study adopted a descriptive survey design. It also employed both quantitative and qualitative methods of data collection and analysis. Stratified random sampling techniques were used in selecting the 150 respondents from the three components of mission personnel, namely civilians, military and police. Data was collected using self administered questionnaires and interview guide. The findings of the study state that gender training has a positive correlation with gender equality since it draws the awareness of peacekeepers on the need to uphold values of equal rights. Gender equality avails conditions for equal responsibilities and, most importantly, it instills conditions where opportunities are equally shared among men and women. The study further concluded that gender awareness, gender planning and analysis aspects improve gender equality in UNMIS, though their effectiveness needs to be studied at length as not all respondents consented with the strategy’s effectiveness. Finally, the study concluded that a number of factors affect/influence gender training methods and content at UNMIS. The researcher recommended, among others, regular training for senior staff on gender issues; gender-balanced composition of Gender Unit staff for equal representation and balanced power relations between men and women; and establishment of joint gender planning mechanisms between peacekeeping missions and other gender-driven stakeholders to facilitate access to and sharing of information on gender issues.

College of Humanities and Social Sciences, 2010-10) Rukemanganizi, BernardThe study on Gender Training and Gender Equality in the United Nations Mission in the Sudan (UNMIS) focused on analyzing how gender awareness influences gender equality in UNMIS, how gender planning aspects influence gender equality in UNMIS, how gender analysis aspects influence gender equality in UNMIS and on analyzing factors that affect/influence gender training methods and content in UNMIS, The study adopted a descriptive survey design. It also employed both quantitative and qualitative methods of data collection and analysis. Stratified random sampling techniques were used in selecting the 150 respondents from the three components of mission personnel, namely civilians, military and police. Data was collected using self-administered questionnaires and interview guide. The findings of the study state that gender training has a positive correlation with gender equality since it draws the awareness of peacekeepers on the need to uphold values of equal rights. Gender equality avails conditions for equal responsibilities and, most importantly, it instills conditions where opportunities are equally shared among men and women. The study further concluded that gender awareness, gender planning and analysis aspects improve gender equality in UNMIS, though their effectiveness needs to be studied at length as not all respondents consented with the strategy’s effectiveness. Finally, the study concluded that a number of factors affect/influence gender training methods and content at UNMIS. The researcher recommended, among others, regular training for senior staff on gender issues; gender-balanced composition of Gender Unit staff for equal representation and balanced power relations between men and women; and establishment of joint gender planning mechanisms between peacekeeping missions and other gender-driven stakeholders to facilitate access to and sharing of information on gender issues.
- ItemThe effect of quality assurance on workers’ safety in laboratore pharmaceutique Du Wada(Kampala International University, College of Humanities and Social Sciences, 2010-10) Ntagara Ngabo, DonatienThis report is a result of an academic research entitled “The effect of quality assurance on workers’ safety in Laboratoire Pharmaceutique du Rwanda (LABOPHAR). The objectives of this study were: to assess working condition of personnel in the factory, to find out the degree of awareness on good manufacturing procedures and safety by workers; and to establish the relationship between quality assurance and workers’ safety. The study used cross-sectional research design. The study population was 20 workers, directly involved in manufacture of drugs. One validated structured questionnaire was used to collect data. Simple percentages, frequency counts were used to analyze the data. Results showed lack of working conditions due to non-conformity to appropriate and standardized personal protective equipment’s (85% of respondents). As for quality of heating, ventilation and air conditioning, l00% of respondents confirmed poor ventilation through directional flow and regulation of indoor air. Findings showed lack of regular and continuing training in good manufacturing procedures (85% of respondents). Fifty percent affirm working every time in fixed posture. Findings revealed a significant positive relationship between Quality of Assurance and Workers’ Safety (r=0.673). From findings, it was recommended to provide workers with sufficient and certified protective equipment; to provide the factory with a ventilation system and regulation of temperature; to carryout regular trainings on safety and good manufacturing procedures.
- ItemFisheries co-management and gender roles in Lake Victoria Fishing Communities of Busia and Mukono districts, Uganda(Kampala International University, College of Humanities and social sciences., 2010-11) Abalo, GertrudeWomen play crucial roles in fisheries, particularly in the processing and marketing. Despite this, women’s knowledge and abilities are overlooked in research and policy making. Therefore, a research was conducted to assess the effect of co-management of fisheries on the traditional gender roles at household and community as well as the fishing roles; obstacles encountered b~’ women in the co-management of fisheries arid the coping and transformative strategies; the women’s benefits and empowerment in the co-management of fisheries. A total of 248 of Beach Management Units members in Lake Victoria fishing communities of Majanji in Busia District and Katosi in Mukono District, Uganda were involved and a thorough analysis of secondary information and primary data collected with the help of questionnaire, interviews, observations, and focus group discussions. Key findings proved that under co-management of fisheries, there was evidence of inequality in gender division of labour with women doing more work than men. There is no significant difference in the obstacles faced by either gender in participation in co-management of fisheries. Furthermore, there is a considerable stride towards equity in terms of distribution of benefits of both gender and process clarity in co-management of fisheries. In conclusion, of women in co-management arrangements ensures a gender orientation towards gender equality, equity, empowerment and sustainable development, thus the recommendation to promote gender sensitive policies and further research.

Data was collected from primary and secondary instrument of the research was questionnaire, to collect primary data from sample size of 171 respondents out of population of 300 respondents. Cross tabulation(frequencies and percentages), mean and correlation analysis using persons’ coefficient values was used to analysis data. The study concludes that there is significant relationship between civil war and unemployment in Mogadishu Somalia. And it recommended the following central government should work hand in offer with local leaders, elders, world lords and citizens to build good governance and stop the civil war. The central government should work with local community to reactivate local people to make investments and create their own business. Also Ngo’s should establish projects that all unemployed people can benefit from that.

Objectives of the study: To determine the profile of Housing Finance Bank, To determined the level of credit management, To determined the level of performance of Housing Finance Bank, To determined relationship between credit management and performance of Housing Finance Bank. The methodology of the study: A case study research design was conducted to capture qualitative and quantitative data. The research population was 300 subjects which were included in the study. The sample size of 110 general respondents participated in the study. The main instruments for data collection included questionnaires and Observation. The research employed both qualitative and quantitative methods to analyze the data collected. The study showed that there was positive significant relationship between credit policy and loan repayment, market share, overall bank performance, However the results indicated that a positive and insignificant relationship between credit policy and customer care and a negative and insignificant relationship with number of clients, The PLCC results also indicated that the bank’s interest rate policy is positively and significantly correlated with loan repayment, market share. The same result shows a negative significant relationship between interest rate policy and number of client and a negative insignificant relationship with customer care. The researcher concluded that, there is no significant relationship between credit management and performance in Housing Finance Bank.
