A students’ records management information systems in a secondary school : case study Crested Secondary School (CSS)

All in all, the study is focusing on the development of a students’ records management information system for the secondary schools while using Crested SS as the case study. A students’ records management information system for the secondary schools, shall be able to track personal record of students, ease searching and updates of students records and provide better security and control over information. The system will ensure that the information is well kept and consistent. A database management system (DBMS) consists of software that organizes the storage of data. A DBMS controls the creation, maintenance, and use of the database storage structures of social organizations and of their users. The major objective of this study is to develop a model database management system for school. Specific objectives include to gather requirements that is needed in the new system, to develop a prototype that provide a firmly information and reduce the risk or likely hood of losing important data in the school, to test and validate the prototype that evaluates the system functionality. Both primary and secondary methods of data collection will be used in which case; focus interviews, and observations were employed.
Computerized Academic Transcript Procession

For the last few years, technology has spread so fast. Every institution wants to computerize its system. Unyama National Teachers’ College is one of the institutions. This institution is a teachers’ training school whereby every year, students graduate after completing their course (takes two years). This therefore calls for an efficient and timely way of processing the students’ transcript. A full analysis of the current system was done and problems being faced noted down. With knowledge gained from class and the noted problems, a new system was designed. Due to shortage of time allocated and inadequacy of resources, the task is reduced to computerization of transcript processing. As such, research is undertaken, analysis done, recommendations given and a system designed and implemented to replace the current manual transcript processing system.

Registration management system has great impact on the day to day activities in most organization they among others they provide improved data accessibility, data integrity, security of information and so on. Today, the trend in most organization has shifted from the traditional and manual way of storing data to a modern and organized way. Because of the, our lady seat of Wisdom (OLSW) could not be left behind and it fully shares the advantages of database systems. Development methodology and tools have also been discussed in details in chapter three this includes knowledge acquisition and analysis, data collection techniques, development tools and system validation. This system has enabled OLSW to keep track of student’s records, permits fast access to the student’s information, easy back up of data and alt of space has been saved. It has further improved on the security of the school’ data as to access data from a given department one must be authenticated by use of a unique password.
The extent of Internet use in selection and acquisition of library materials in Kampala International University

The research was carried out at Kampala International University library with the purpose of establishing the extent of Internet usage in the selection and acquisition of library materials. The study was guided by the following objectives: to examine the effectiveness of Internet usage for selection and acquisition, the challenges faced as well as establishing the recommendations to those challenges. Questionnaires were distributed to all the library staff of KIU since there were no designated personnel for selection and acquisition. Two interviews were also conducted with the head librarian and her deputy. It was found out that Internet usage for selection and acquisition of library materials was to a small extent because some staff did not actually know how it could be used for this purpose, there was no automation program in place yet. The only uses of Internet for this purpose were acquiring catalogs from vendors, communicating with some vendors and donors as well as acquiring bibliographic details of books, The internet has not yet been utilized to place orders with vendors, make payments for resources and all the other routines involved. In order for the library to reap the full benefits of Internet usage in the selection and acquisition of library materials, the library should fully automate its selection and acquisition routines. The library staff should be trained in the utilization of the Internet for the same purpose.

Therefore the need for a computerized management system that help both the employees in the health center and the patients
Design and Implementation of an Automated School Management System: A case study of St. Peter’s Secondary School, Naalya.

The research was mainly carried out to study the impact of computer-based systems on information sharing and data flow within St Peter’s SS Naalya. The major problem identified was the use of manual papers. The main objective of the study was to develop an automated school management system that will improve the operations of St Peter’s SS Naalya. Different techniques were used to collect data like interviews, observation, questionnaires. The design and implementation of the system was done using different languages like HTML, JavaScript, PHP and MYSQL through waterfall model. Recommendations were made to help solve the problems identified like ensuring validation of data, avoid duplication of data among others. In conclusion, there’s need for St Peter’s SS Naalya to move away from manual systems to automated systems. The outcome of the study is an automated school management system that will improve the operations of St Peter’s SS Naalya.
A hotel room booking information system case study: Mubano Hotel

A hotel Information System was a system designed for Mubano hotel due to the problems that it was facing during the time it was still using the manual system. It took time to come up with urgently needed information due to the type of filling system that was being used. The hotel spent a lot of money on stationery. Money was spent on buying papers, pens, and what ever that was used in this manual system. The working environment was not conducive for the employees in the front office due to the many files that occupy a lot of space causing congestion. However a system has been developed that will help the hotel to generate its reports whenever booking is done.

This Project described the entire process for designing An Online Business Directory. The main purpose for the project was to analyze and investigate an Online advertising system as a way of acquiring the system of advertising online so that companies/businesses to advertise in order to cover wider market, was designed and implemented. This project was about designing and implementing An Online Business Directory for Surf Uganda. The Project had three objectives: It aimed at defining and analyzing the old System and determines the requirements for the new system. It aimed at implementing a system that substitutes television, radio, news papers, and door to door advertisement. The data was collected from both primary and secondary sources using interviews, questionnaires, and observation. The project gave an analysis of the old system that was manual. All the above imply that the system will run smoothly thereby reducing on the workload increase productivity and improve efficiency on the current system. However as was stated, due to time constraint the system does not consider all the areas. The system has not gone through the stage of maintenance because this model is a Prototype, therefore errors should be expected. The software does not have the HELP function; therefore individual learning will be a bit hard to master the operation of the system.

It will also act as a useful source of information to scholars and future researchers in the field of database management systems, as they will be able to compare notes and even to bridge some of the missing gaps. This project aimed at the design of a guest House Database Management System. A system to aid in the management and operation of a Guest House. Information systems which are not carefully designed basing on good security practices may lead to data loss, misplacement and redundancy. Method that were used to gather information about the current system include; interview, record review and questionnaire. It gives a detailed review ~of selected methods, instruments of data analysis and presentations that were used when analyzing and evaluating the current system of the Guest House. The methods applied attempted to establish and analyze the status of the problem, appraising its effectiveness where problems existed, to try and find solutions. The study was strictly carried out at Hiroz Guest House. The literature review elaborates and gives a detailed perspective of Management Information System and databases as viewed by different authors and researchers, effects and benefits of databases and data management systems. The researcher uses data collecting methods such as interviews, questionnaires and document analysis in order to come up with findings that are used in designing a database system, which will solve the problems faced currently with the manual system.

A management information system is one of the most crucial elements of an organization. Having a good information system is essential to perform efficiently. In a competitive environment, the organization with better information system has a distinct advantage. It’s upon this background that, this study of building a management information system for Regional Parcel Delivery Company is based. The idea of implementing a management information system for Regional Parcel Delivery Company Pharmacies originated from an exploration of the current system of data management in the company. The current paper based system is associated with problems like loss of data due to poor storage, obtaining inaccurate information due to poor integrity, duplication of files etc. The project undertaken is expected to achieve an efficient and sustainable data and file handling system within the company management. That will in turn benefit the management, personnel, customer and logistics department.

The use of ICT offers great opportunities for improving the effectiveness and efficiency of the cases and dissemination of information by the judiciary sector. New information and communication technologies can make tremendous contribution to the improvement of the handling and management of information. This has led to a number of studies to assess the benefits, challenges and possible solutions associated with the adoption of information and communication technologies (ICT).Unfortunately, few studies have been focused on the use of information and communication technology in areas related to law for whom the adoption rate, is far slower than other institutions like the banking sector. This study assessed how the adoption of ICT in law firms can facilitate access, dissemination and enhance better storage, retrieval, update and management of information with maximum safety hence improving on the time needed to processes a particular piece of information. However the installations of ICTS comes along with its own challenges different to particular cases which must be addressed if any benefits are to be realized. Lack of clear information systems, low knowledge about computer and poor financing of the department are the major setbacks to the use of ICT .information systems in Odokol and company advocates largely depend on paper and ink. It also depends on people to transfer information from one place to another and from one office to another. Problems like delay in the flow of information, difficulty in allocating information are a common phenomenon as a result decisions can be made basing on inadequate and inaccurate information. This research therefore shows that an effective strategy must be in place in order to narrow the gap and increase the ability of the people to use ICT for information access and dissemination.

Enhanced design of an online booking processing system for air Tanzania

This project direct give the people or passengers to make their booking online which make them to save time, also management of data it is also intended to provide the relevant security measures so that all the unauthorized and unauthenticated users are denied access to the precious data and information concerning the passengers and making it safe. The aim of this study is to establish web based databases in developing countries airways DBMS are extremely beneficial to airways management. To enable access to vast amount of data, control redundancies, control concurrent anomalies, provide good security, rapid gathering of that information and online professional training. A web based database can do all of the above and more yet, facilitate the development of interactive features such as guest books, forms, images, a good interface and processes such as online booking. Air Tanzania designed to show the establishment of web based database in developing countries airways and the role it plays in Tanzania. Samples of respondent were drawn from Air Tanzania in addition to information expected to be generated from discussion, observation, and interviews with airways staff and passengers. A lot of staff and passengers they have accepted the use of the database system because it helps to keep staff and passengers records.
Design and implementation of a book bank system: A case study Kampala International University

This survey research design was adopted by Kampala International University to modernize the method of book borrowing and reading. However, flexible approach has been used altogether; questionnaires, interviews and observations were the tool for data collection. Data was presented using both qualitative and quantitative research techniques. Afterwards conclusion was put forward for further researchers on the topic and for the policy reviewers
Human resource directorate management information system: A case study of Kampala International University

The software I have developed is to overcome inefficiency of activities in current manual human resource in KIU (Kampala International University).That is record keeping, secrecy, retrieving of information will be more easier, accessing details depends on permission, the system can be accessed simultaneously with different permission, it is safe and manageable only two persons i.e. (database administrator and data administrator). Still university will save a lot of finances compared to the current manual system. The developed system tracks all details of workers and keeps them in sections designed to handle it. The main issue of developing this system is to have proper management on staff or workers’ records in terms of retrieving, manipulating, and storing data. The new system will reduce the amount of hard copies of document generated by having new electronic copies that facilities distribution and simultaneous access by multiple users.
