- ItemAbolition of Corporal Punishments and Students Discipline in Schools. A Case Study of Winstone Senior Secondary School(Kampala International University, Colleges of Humanities and Social sciences, 2013-08) Tusiime, DoreenThe purpose of the study was to examine the impact of corporal punishment on students’ discipline. The study was guide by three specific objectives and these included; to identify the various forms of corporal punishments in schools, to identify various impacts of corporal punishment on students’ discipline and to find solutions to managing discipline in schools. The study employed qualitative and quantitative approach method in collecting data and a sample of 92 respondents participated in the study. From the study findings, it was revealed that both men and women participated in the study, further still, it was revealed that canning was most commonly used form of corporal punishment use at Winston senior secondary school as it was evidenced by the majority of respondents 28 (3 0%), however, corporal punishments resulted into high school drpeouts and reduce on the problem, respondents suggested teaching good morals. The study recommended that Encourage learners to choose and follow the specific behaviour from their code of conduct. Educators must teach learners to evaluate their behaviour on a daily basis by recognizing and crediting good behaviour. For example, the educator may credit all learners with 10 points from the first day of the school week. Each time the learner misbehaves he/she loses a point. On the last day of the school week the number of point each remains with is counted. The one with the most number of points is honored the King/Queen of the following week. The Ministry of Education should develop programmes for girls who drop out of school particularly due to pregnancy or child bearing. They need functional skills. This training should also aim at instilling in them moral values. Introducing moral up bringing in the curriculum would probably discourage girls from becoming pregnant. Government needs to develop policies and programmes to corporal punishments in schools. There is need for a clear policy the recommended forms of corporal punishments to be used in school .This will help to ensure that students are not just punished.
- ItemAbolition of graduatedtaxandlocalgovernments’administrationperformanceinselected local governments in Uganda case study: Kiryandongo District local government(Kampala International University,College of Humanities and Social Sciences, 2012-10) Bihemaiso, DavidThe major purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between local governments’ administration performance.and graduated tax in Kiryandongo district; Uganda Specifically the study aimed at determining the impact of abolition of graduated tax on the local governments’ administration performance, to investigate the cauies of challenges due to the abashment of graduated tax in Kiryandongo district and identify solutions to the problem of low locally raised revenue in the district andthe entire country. The methods used for data collection were questionnaires to the district technical staff and interviews with the district political leadership. The findings of study revealed that low local revenue base has negatively affected local governments’ performance. Poverty, ban of graduated tax, tax payers misunderstanding and large public demand are the major causes oflow local revenue. The study recommended that central government should operationalize local services tax and hotel tax, property tax be levied, sensitize the public about the benefits of paying’(axes, government should provide subsidies on agricultural inputs so that production is enhanced which subsequently will raise on local revenue. Finally, graduated tax should be re-instated but the mode of collection should be streamlined so that tax payers pay it with ease.

It was carried out Narok District in Kenya. The objectives of this study were; To find out the causes of employee absenteeism in Ewaso Ngiro South Development Authority. To establish a mechanism to curb or reduce absenteeism at the workplace and improve employee performance. To examine the relationship between absenteeism and employee performance. The purpose of the study was out examine the contribution of workplace absenteeism on employee performance. The •study was descriptive; it employed both qualitative and quantitative methods of research. The study used both structured and unstructured questionnaire which targeted all citizens since they were relevant in providing the best information needed. Different methods of data collection were employed which includes interviews, questionnaires. The study population comprised of 100 employees out of which 80 were selected and the sample included both the management and some members of staff. The researcher found out that occupational stress to a greater extent contributed to absenteeism among other causes. It was also found out that acknowledging regularity and punctuality and rewarding accordingly was the best way to reduce absenteeism at Ewaso Ngiro South Development Authority. The researcher also found out that there is a relationship between absenteeism and employee performance. Ewaso Ngiro South Development Authority should revise their policies regarding absenteeism and regularity at work this will work towards ensuring that employees adhere to the policies and attend work on a daily process.

The purpose of the study is establishing relationship between absenteeism and organizational performance in ministry of agriculture, food and cooperation. The study was guided by the following objectives; to examine the causes of absenteeism on employee performance, to examine the effect of absenteeism on employee performance, to establish ways of controlling absenteeism on organization. The study adopted a case study research design where by both qualitative and quantitative strategies of data analyses were used. The researcher drew a sample of 60 respondents, at ministry of Agriculture, Food, and Cooperative in Tanzania as illustrated below. Findings indicates that major causes of employees absenteeism are unsound personnel policies, while the common effect of absenteeism is only psychological effect, the last finding shows major solution is high wages and allowances .. Conclusion in each objective is the first cause absenteeism in ministry play a significantly negative effect which hence low production, the effect in ministry play a very significant role in ensuring absenteeism rates of employee at workplace. But the conclusion of ways to control absenteeism, only payment does play significant role in the organization performance. Basing on the studying the following were the recommendations were suggested by the researcher, the reward system at ministry of Agriculture, Food, and Cooperative needed to be reappraisal so that they are more general and fair to the whole staff. This should be in line with the government pay scales.
- ItemThe abuse of photojournalism in the media: case study women(Kampala International University.College Of Humanities and social science, 2008-08) Lucy, ApioThe purpose of this study was to investigate the causes of abuse of photojournalism in the media. The specific objectives of the stud_y \Vere to show how photojournalism ethics should be applied when covering women's photography, highlight the facts that some of the portraits of women can conflict peoples morals in society and therefore suggest how to minimize this conflict and to explain how responsible journalism can be exercised so as to eliminate this problem. The methods used for data collection was questionnaires to the staff members of media centers covered. In chapter four, the findings were presented and interpreted in relation to the study objectives and research questions. While linking to the existing literature, results pictures showing the portrayals of women. Based on the findings it was clearly seen that both new vision and the daily monitor portray v.·omen in their photography as sex objects. The findings suggested recommendations that Women photography and photography in the print media in general should be practiced by photojournalists with at least a degree or diploma, so as to perpetuate irresponsible reporting; The print media both new vision and the daily monitor should reconsider public interests other than market or increased sales for their papers so that they are not tempted to publish controversial pictures about women without considering their ethical implications among other recommendations.

Sironko District(Kampala International University, Colleges of Humanities and Social sciences, 2007-09) Nafuna, EstherThe study was carried out to determine the accessibility to and utilization of RH services by the women with disabilities in Buwalasi Sub-county, Sironko District. Recently many disabled women in Buwalasi Sub-county have been sidelined from accessing and utilizing the RH services, and if accessed are not fully utilized. Therefore, the aim of the study was to establish the extent to which women with impairments access and utilize RH services and suggest the possible ways of addressing the factors that do not enable them to access and utilize these services. The information obtained from this study will not only benefit Buwalasi Sub-county, but also other areas which have the same problem. The administration and other policy makers will also be in position to establish the channels of disseminating RI-il and services to women with disabilities and find possible solutions of addressing problems faced by these disabled women in their communities. The study was presented in five chapters; Chapter one deals with the introduction and background of the study, the statement ofthe research problems and questions ofthe study the study. Chapter two presents views of the study in relation to the already available information from other sources. Chapter three deals with the methodology and tools used the area of study, the study design, the population sample and the limitations ofthe study. Chapter four deals with data analysis, interpretation and presentation, The results from the study carried out revealed that accessibility and utilization of RH services by women with disabilities in not sufficient. Chapter five entails the summery of the findings, the conclusion, recommendations and suggestions for future researchers
- ItemAccountability and service delivery in local governments in Uganda: a case study of Kiboga district(Kampala International University, College of Humanities and Social Sciences, 2015-07) Samuel, MutsigaziThe study was focused on the role of accountability in service delivery in local governments in Uganda: A case study of Kiboga district Local government. It was guided by four research objectives; to assess the accountability mechanisms in Kiboga district Local government, to determine the challenges that face the service delivery and to examine the role of accountability in the delivery of services in Kiboga district local government. The study employed descriptive research design which was deemed fit for the research problem under investigation. The study found out that there are a number of accountability mechanisms which included monthly meetings, auditing, financing community projects among others. It was also discovered that accountability and service delivery in Uganda especially in Kiboga district local government is faced with serious challenges which include; illiteracy, limited funds, corruption among others. The study concluded that there is a lot that needs to be done to streamline accountability in Local governments in Uganda especially in Kiboga district local government. Basing on the findings of the study, the following measures were recommended; 1. Local governments should have clear hierarchies, based on a transparent attribution of functions and involvement of the local communities. 2. Every local government should have some freedom to organize itself institutionally, to manage its own affairs and to finance some services by itself. The basis for autonomy lies in democratic legitimacy, as only popular elections of the legislative councils ensure full accountability. 3. The states should establish a council for the distribution of resources among localities, with the membership of commissioners, in addition to abdicating some tax-revenues to localities. 4. Local councilors should also be responsible enough to monitor and supervise projects among the local community to alleviate poverty, they should have voice to question commissioners and local govern inspector at all the Payam they are operating.

This paper is a qualitative assessment of the potential of the Ugandan decentralization reform for poverty alleviation. The Ugandan government initiated an ambitious decentralization reform in 1992, which represents an example of full-fledged devolution with the transfer of far-reaching responsibilities to local governments. However, several shortcomings, such as low levels of accountability, insufficient human and financial resources, corruption, patronage, and central resistance to decentralization, constrain the proper implementation of the reform, putting improvements in participation and efficiency at risk and ultimately jeopardizing the intended impact on poverty. - ItemAdministrative Accountability and Performance in the Public Sector: A case study of Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA).(Kampala International University, College of Humanities and Social Sciences., 2018-09) Lukwago, RuthThe study established Administrative Accountability and performance in the public sector: a case study of Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA). The study was guided by the following objectives, to examine the internal control s put in place to enhance performance, to analyze the reporting mechanisms for performance of KCCA to establish the challenges faced in promoting administrative accountability in the delivery of services. The study was carried out in Kampala. This study employed both explanatory and descriptive cross-sectional survey design. The sample consisted of 56 respondents from KCCA population of 296 people depending on their role, departments and positions. The sample size was determined using Krejcie and Morgan (1970) table. The study found out that 53.6% of the respondents agreed that there are internal controls put in place to enhance performance in KCCA 16.6% of the respondents were not sure that there are internal controls put in place to enhance performance in KCCA26.8% of the respondents (12.5 + 14.3) disagreed that there are internal controls put in place to enhance performance in KCCA The reporting mechanism for performance in KCCA were rated at different levels. Out of the categories, two were rated very high with, (equivalent to strongly agree) meaning that respondents strongly agreed with the statement. The study concluded that there was poor adherence to proper physical planning and development control and service standards; poor mobilization; consultation; mobilization and sustainability; poor decisions making;; weak laws are among things that affect effective and efficiency performance of accountability in Kampala Capital City Authority . Some key challenges that face these legal instruments range from policy, economic and political gaps and challenges among others including; unrealistic penalties, vague powers to health workers and the Act is outdated, lacks a participatory approach and the problem being only the lack of law. The KCC Ordinance, 2000 has gaps including; policy gaps include many avenues on tax and revenue collection, poor law enforcement of laws, weak penalties, and lack of a deliberate policy, politics. Local Government Act does not directly tackle or empower the private stakeholders on the issue of administrative accountability and service delivery among others. The study recommended that there is need for the internal auditors to continuously update themselves with the changing times and technologies and sharpen their skills. By applying skills to the most critical points, building personal and professional credibility and recognising and responding to the needs, internal auditors can become indispensable thus speeding good governance and enhancing efficiency of internal control. The management of KCCA should keep organizing seminars and workshops whereby these internal control auditors would be trained frequently by experts either internally or externally. Internal Auditors must have sufficient proficiency and training to carry out the tasks assigned to them. The auditors work must be carefully directed, supervised and reviewed. The amount of supervision required corresponds to the experience and skill of the auditor.

- ItemAdolescents’ sexual behaviour and their effects on their reproductive health: a case study of Rubaga Division schools, Kampala District(Kampala International University, College of Humanities and Social Sciences, 2013-05) Juma, Juma OthmanThe study explained adolescents’ sexual behaviour and their effects on their reproductive health. The study was carried out in Rubaga Division, Kampala District. A quantitative survey design was used in the study. The population of the study comprised of 68 respondents from two secondary schools in Rubaga Division all students in Senior III and IV. The number of male respondents were 34 students randomly selected from Old Kampala Mixed S.S.S and 34 female respondents, being students selected randomly from Rubaga Girls S.S.S. A questionnaire was administered to the respondents and findings indicated that adolescent sexual behaviour was one of the concerns of adolescents reproductive health. The identified effects were risky sexual behaviour which included unprotected sex, having many sexual partners, smoking and drug use, tendencies of homosexuality and consequences of health related issues such as early pregnancies among female adolescents, contraction of STI’s and HIV / AIDS, abortion and other psychological behaviours like suicide through early prostitution, low self esteem, school dropouts, early marriages, etc. Most respondents agreed that early sexual behaviour leads to different kinds of reproductive health and psychological consequences. From the study sexual recommendatibns were made and these included; parental involvement in educating their children about sexual issues, peer education and sensitization, establishment of teenage centres where group counseling can be affected, introduction of sex education curriculum in schools, general community mobilization, et al.
