- ItemDesign and implementation of a human resource management and recruitment system using open source tools:study of rift valley railways(Kampala International University, College of Computing and Information Technology, 2008-07) Oduor, Richard Ed; Otieno, Bernard OmondiThe fast growth in communication and information systems around the world generally and in East Africa in particular, has made it easier for major institutions to better organize their databases. In the case study of the Rift Valley Railways, the objective was to develop a cost effective computerized human resource management system. The researchers developed a system which was user-friendly and could be readily adopted by other organizations. A database was developed to store the user’s information. It had the capacity to improve on its services and to attract more clients who use the service. It also had a database storage system which could act as a backup and support the preliminary system. It would be capable of storing the user’s information separate form daily reports of the organization hence keeping information from the human resource department separate from that of the public, a key security measure which is crucial in information technology in the present time. These were achieved by the use of informatory research tools in combination with the research methodology, with tools such as system development life cycle (SDLC), prototyping and Joint Application Development (JAD) consequently software for instance PHP in hand with MYSQL server it was possible to accomplish the task. This was expected to increase efficiency and ease the work for the human resource department of the Rift Valley Railways. The project was deemed to be feasible and was expected to improve customer goodwill and employee motivation if implemented. The company was expected to have a greatly enhanced competitiveness among international business enterprises and hence be in a position to provide better services to its clients and employees.

- ItemA web-based airline reservation system case study: agefreco airways DRC(Kampala International University,School of Computing and Information Technology, 2009-05) Mapatano, Bashengezi ErickAirline companies have existed since the beginning the 20th century. This industry has been dramatically improving since the late 1950s. European and American companies lately developed websites for their companies in order to increase customer satisfaction through these new services. In Africa, especially in DRC, this new technology is still at the initial stage and developers are shifting from simple websites to dynamic ones with much more interactivity. This paper focuses on the airline industry on the Web and develops a customer oriented airline site evaluation framework. It may be useful not only to users that purchase airline services via Internet but also to designers and developers of airline websites. The main objective of this project was not only to develop an online airline reservation system that could speed up the business process of the company but also to allow users to check themselves for flight schedules, tariffs, plane types and they would be able to make and cancel a reservation. Airline reservation systems can manage multiple airlines, schedules and fares. Multiple agents can log in and users can view deals reserve online and pay with either a credit card, check or cash. The administrators con basically setup the system to your needs, input all the fare into airline schedules and create agents who will use the system to book and make reservations.

As they are doing this, many impediments arise as to how they can manage to do it as quickly and efficiently as possible. For this, a number of factors arise. These factors affect overall performance of the Human Resource in discharging its responsibilities to the Organization which is the main financier and beneficiary of having a qualified and diverse workforce. The general objective of the project was to examine the factors affecting the recruitment and selection process that has led to loss of time, money and in-efficiency, the project intended to propose measures for improvement in this important yet neglected functionality. The research design used was a case study technique to obtain data from the target population which was the Kenya Railways staff and in particular, the Human resource Department. The study utilized documentation, interviews and observation to obtain the findings. The Human Resource/Recruitment Management System is a general purpose set of instruction that facilitates the process of advertising, applying and management of various applications of prospective employees; they describe the relational databases as a collection of data, typically describing the activities of one or more related origination; the report covers the fundamentals of the modern Human Resource management system in particular the implementation of a database system. What resulted from this was an efficient mechanism that allowed the proper management of job applications and selection by the Human Resource Staff. From the study we would recommend online application and management system to enable an easy transition from the application process to eventually the end of the recruitment and selection process.
- ItemElectronic evaluation system for monitoring employeee’s job perfomance, a case of info-com limited Uganda(Kampala International University, College of Computing and Information Technology, 2011-03) Kimonyi, Moses Mutuku; Saboke, Alex M.According to Hackman, Oldham (1976), Evaluation and performance appraisal is the major function of human resource department. A performance appraisal, employee appraisal and performance review are methods by which job performance of an employee is evaluated (generally in terms of quality, quantity, cost and time) typically by corresponding manager or supervisor. This is done through analyzing employees’ recent success and failures, personal strength and weaknesses and suitability for promotion or further training. Info-com has been using manual method which is evidently realized by piled performance reports in the Human Resource department. To track employees’ and performance records was hard and little critical analysis could be carried out, because no progressive reports could be easily made, stored records could be easily stolen, lost, misplaced or intentionally vandalized due to absence of proper security mechanism. The objective of this project was to investigate if there was a relationship between monitoring and evaluation at Info-Corn, develop a system that will monitor and evaluate employees’ job performance and finally implement the developed system. It is recommended that adoption and usage of the developed electronic evaluation system for monitoring and evaluation of employees’ job performance could reduce the time and money spent conducting and recording employee performance appraisals - up to 85%, easily track and manage the entire appraisal workflow from your HR control center and improve on knowledge of manual record keeping of the employees records.
