- ItemAn Assessment on the Challenges Facing Girl- Child Education among the Namads in Kenya: A Case Study of Bute Division Wajir District.(Kampala International University, bachelors degree of education, 2007-04) Omar Enow, AdanMigrants, and particularly nomads, are among the most marginalized social groups, and are widely excluded from educational provision, despite pledges of education for all. The phenomenon of movement itself presents many challenges for both providers, and would be users, of educational services. Around the world, the provision of education for nomads has reflected and been instrumental to particular stances on pastoral development. The links between education and development are explored specifically in the case of a transhumant pastoral group in North Eastern Kenya. The research paper reveals education for all as an ideological notion, reflecting values that contradict those of nomadic groups and argues that the value positions underlying this notion need to be articulated and further contextualized if it is not simply to reflect existing, and exclusive hegemonies.

This was after the researcher realized that many pupils had reading difficulties and therefore, the researcher suspected that the approaches used to teach reading could be ineffective. Therefore, the researcher tried to find out the effects of the teaching approaches on the reading skills basing on four areas namely: teaching strategies, educational resources, reading readiness and classroom management. This was according to the main areas discussed in the reviewed literature. The researcher used the survey method to conduct the study. A total of eighty (80) respondents who were sampled from standard five, six, seven and eight participated. They filled questionnaires whose responses were later analyzed. The results indicated that the approaches used to teach reading are ineffective and so leading poor reading skills among the learners. This is so because the teaching strategies/methods are not effective, as teachers do not combine various methods. The educational resources are inadequate and not effectively used. The reading evaluation procedures are also ineffective all leading to poor reading skills among the learners. The researcher therefore recommends that teachers and other stakeholders in the education sector makes intervention under the four areas of study in order to alleviate the problem of reading.
